Melva Marie Wallace, 99, Malvern
Melva Marie Wallace, age 99, of Malvern, died at the Manor of Malvern on Aug. 1, 2009. Celebration of Life services were held at Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home in Malvern, Wednesday Aug. 5, 2009. Officiating was Pastor Michael Stevens. Interment was in the Malvern Cemetery.
The oldest of four children of Orville Arthur and Cora Stella (Kelso) Hardy, she was born on Dec. 3, 1909, in Tabor. She attended school in Glenwood and Malvern.
She and Charles Marion Shere were married on Dec. 11, 1926, in Glenwood. They made their home in Malvern and were blessed with four children, Charles Truman, Verlin Arthur, Richard LeRoy, and Mona Elaine. The couple had been married nine years at the time of his death on Feb. 4, 1936. She married Linville Wallace on April 30, 1938, in Glenwood and lived in Malvern. They had been married 43 years when he died on July 14, 1981.
Mrs. Wallace was a busy mother and homemaker. She always had a big garden and enjoyed canning the produce. She also loved to make and sew quilts and do embroidery work, all by hand. She was a member of the Malvern Baptist Church. In March of 2001, she moved to the Manor of Malvern.
Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her parents; Orville and Cora Hardy; husbands, Charles Shere and Linville Wallace; sons, Charles Shere and wife Bernadine; and Verlin Shere; grandson, Rodney Shere; great-grandsons, Justin Shere and Steven Huey; brothers, Corwin Hardy, Truman Hardy, and Verlin Hardy. She is survived by her son, Richard Shere and wife Joanna of Malvern; daughter Mona McDaniel and husband John of Council Bluffs; daughter-in-law, Francine Shere of Omaha; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 42 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
A memorial fund has been established.
