Marvin Pekny, 73, Council Bluffs

April 18, 1938 - May 10, 2011

    Marvin Pekny age 73, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital. Celebration of Marvin’s life was held Friday, May 13, 2011, with a wake service followed by a visitation at St. Patrick’s Church. Celebration and Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, May 14, also at St. Patrick’s. Father Dave Fleming was the celebrant. Interment was in Garner Township Cemetery. A luncheon followed at St. Patrick’s Church. Memorials are suggested to Nebraska Polio Survivors Assoc., Box 6076 Omaha, Neb. 68106.
    Marvin was born in Clarkson, Neb., April 18, 1938, to Joe and Bessie Kucera Pekny. He graduated from Clarkson High School and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Marvin received his Masters Degree in clinical audiology from Colorado State University and has been a polio survivor since 1958. He was united in marriage to Sharlene Clark on Aug. 3, 1969. Marvin served as supervisor of hearing services at AEA 13 for 20 years, and operated Audiology Services and Hearing Aid with wife Sharlene for 30 years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, life member of Iowa Speech Language and Hearing Assoc., charter member of Lions Club Lamplighters, Ham Radio operator since 1960 “W0CKE,” and a member of the Nebraska Polio Survivors Assoc.
    Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Joyce Pekny, and father-in-law Sterling Clark. Survivors include wife of 42 years, Sharlene of Council Bluffs; sons, Justin and wife Melisia of Glenwood; Darren and fiancé Danielle Dolezal of Omaha; grandchildren, Reese and Cole Pekny, mother-in-law, Shirley Clark of  Fowler, Colo.; brother, Lumir “Lu” of San Antonio, Texas; and brother-in-law, Sid Clark of Ft. Collins, Colo. 
    Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel, Council Bluffs handled the arrangements.
