Marvin L. Goos, 89, Glenwood

April 23, 1922 – June 15, 2011

    Marvin Lavern Goos, 89, of Glenwood, passed away June 15, 2011, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. Funeral services were Saturday, June 18, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Silver City with military honors and interment in the Silver City Cemetery. Following the committal service, fellowship and lunch with the family was held at the church. Memorials are suggested to Silver City American Legion Post 439 or a memorial of the donor’s choice. Hertz Funeral Home of Glenwood was in charge of arrangements.
    Marvin, one of three children of Grace Cortney (Kehoe) Goos and Grover L. Goos, was born April 23, 1922, at his parents’ rural home near Silver City. Marvin attended school in Silver City and graduated from the Silver City High School in 1939. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for three years and was a member of the ROTC. Marvin enlisted in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a graduate of the Cadet Pilot School, as a Second Lieutenant. Marvin was waiting on his orders when the war ended.
    Marvin and Ida Geraldine Rommel were married June 5, 1943. They made their home on the “Goos Farm,” and their marriage was blessed with three sons, Neil Charles, James Marvin and Jeffrey Louis. 
    Marvin and Gerry had been married 23 years when Gerry passed away Dec. 12, 1966.
    Marvin and Bettie (Stemple) Wallace were married Aug. 5, 1978. In 1983, Marvin retired from farming and the couple moved into Glenwood. At one time, they lived in the apartment above the former Raynor-Lett-Kent-Meyer Funeral Home. Marvin also worked for Jim Hughes Real Estate. He and Bettie were married 24 years when Bettie died Dec. 20, 2002.
    Marvin was an active member of the Gordon May Post 439 of the Silver City American Legion. He was a member of the Silver City United Methodist Church and the Silver City Masonic Lodge. Over the years, Marvin was always there for his sister, Catherine, from her childhood and throughout her life. Marvin enjoyed farming, traveling, winters in Arizona, and visiting with family and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Geraldine Goos and Bettie Goos; infant brother Wayne Goos; and sister Catherine Agans and husband Gerald. Marvin is survived by his sons, Neil Goos and wife Linda of Glenwood, Jim Goos and wife Judy, and Jeff Goos and wife Diana, all of Silver City; stepchildren, Frank Wallace III and wife Irene of Lufkin, Texas, Penny Starmer and husband Larry, and Dusty McIntosh and husband Charles, all of Council Bluffs; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Juanita Sanders, of Glenwood.
