Marvin Keith Brammer, age 75, of Tabor

Marvin Keith Brammer, age 75, of Tabor, passed away at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, on Feb. 25, 2010.  Visitation was Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at the Hertz Funeral Home in Glenwood. Funeral services were held Monday, March 1, 2010, at Hertz Funeral Home in Glenwood with burial in the Tabor Cemetery.

    Mr. Brammer, one of 15 children of Fern May (Gray) and Raymond Thomas Brammer, was born on March 18, 1934, on a farm near Woodburn. Fondly known as “Mike,” he grew up in the south central Iowa area where his family lived and farmed. In 1950, the Brammer family moved to a farm near Thurman, and Mike graduated from Thurman High School in 1953.

    He met Betty Elaine Wise of Tabor, in the spring of 1953.  They were married on Feb. 25, 1954, at the home of Rev. Irvin Mitchell in Tabor.  They lived in Shenandoah briefly, before moving to Nebraska in the spring of 1954.  Three years later, the couple returned to Tabor.  Their marriage was blessed with four children, Deborah Louise, Michael Lee, Susan Carol and Timothy Keith.  

    Mr. Brammer worked construction in Omaha, for 14 years.  He then worked for the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Tabor from 1968 until 1977. He purchased and operated Tabor Hardware & Heating until 1981, and then worked at the Glenwood Resource Center in Glenwood, until his retirement in 1997.

    When he wasn’t working, he found time to enjoy camping, hunting, fishing and woodworking.  He especially enjoyed being with his family and friends.

    Mr. Brammer was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Deborah Kinzie in 2002; brothers, Kenneth Brammer and Richard Brammer; and sisters, Elaine Archer and Marjorie Brammer.  He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Brammer of Tabor; children, Mike Brammer and wife Kathy of Liberty, Mo.; Susan Houchens and husband Gene of Lincoln, Neb.; Tim Brammer and wife Linda of Glenwood; son-in-law Bob Kinzie of Glenwood; nine grandchildren, Trisha Inks, Ryan Shere, Amy and Aaron Brammer, Justin Cochran, Zachary Houchens, Josh and Chris Brammer, and Melissa Elwood; four great-grandchildren, Alex Hastie, Jesse James, Olivia Inks, and Mallory Ryan; brothers, Norman Brammer of Weldon; Tom Brammer of Tabor, Gene Brammer of Milo; Jerry Brammer of Dunbar, Neb.; Rex Brammer of Winterset; Herbert Brammer of Macedonia; and Raymond Brammer of Malvern; sisters, Lois Meier of Randolph; Violet Hankins of Stanberry, Mo.; and Bonnie Bryan of Elliott; other relatives and friends.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the University of Nebraska Cancer Research Center.  Following the committal service, lunch and fellowship with the family was held at the Bible Baptist Church in Glenwood.
