Knights stumble against Underwood

Fremont-Mills scored a season-low eight first half points and never got on track offensively in a 48-36 loss to Underwood at the 14th Annual Jennie Ed Sports Med Shootout at the Mid-America Center Saturday morning.

The Knights (4-7 overall, 3-3 in the Corner Conference) struggled all game long to put the ball in the basket as the Eagles (5-6) methodically pulled away. Fremont-Mills had just 17 points after three quarters before out-scoring Underwood 19-17 in the final frame.

The Knights may have struggled on offense but head coach Steve Raymond was not disappointed with his team’s defensive effort.

“I thought our boys worked hard the entire game on the defensive end and did not allow the offensive end to affect that,” he said. “As for the offensive end, we are currently struggling with taking good shots. We have been a little too quick with our possessions and have forced some uncharacteristic shots in the past two games.

“This is something that we are continuing to work on throughout the year. Hopefully, we can find our identity and improve from there.”

Nick Ravlin scored 14 points and Brayden Wollan had 12 to lead Underwood.

Shenandoah 58,
Fremont-Mills 35

Shenandoah opened the game on a 21-2 run and cruised to a 58-35 victory over Fremont-Mills in a boys non-conference tilt Thursday in Tabor.

Kyle Cerven keyed the Mustangs with a game-high 18 points.

Eli Owen led Fremont-Mills with 15 points.

Griswold 24

Fremont-Mills overcame its own cold-shooting in a 48-24 victory over Griswold last Tuesday.

The Knights shot 17-of-55 from the field (30.9 percent) but grabbed 16 steals and 16 offensive rebounds on the night.

“I felt like the boys came out with some good energy,” said Fremont-Mills coach Steve Raymond. “We had some great looks, but weren’t able to put them in early. We played a bunch of younger kids that helped give our starters some rest, which also gave us some energy.”

Raymond thought his team’s defensive effort was excellent, contesting shooters and blocking out on the glass but offensively they were impatient.

“Being our first game back from Christmas break, I was pleased with our play,” he said. “Our break was a tough one as we had some illnesses and injuries that limited our practice time. So, for us to come out and play as we as we did, makes me excited for the second half of the season.”

Eli Owen led the Knights with 12 points. Adam Perrin added eight points and 10 rebounds while Jake Malcom and Cooper Langfelt chipped in eight points each.
