Knights crowned at Corner track meet

TABOR - Nishnabotna may have won more gold medals but Fremont-Mills was crowned the boys team champion at last Tuesday’s Corner Conference Track and Field Meet at Fremont-Mills’ Ralph and Helen Carl Stadium in Tabor.

Fremont-Mills picked up four gold medals to the Blue Devils’ five but the Knights easily out-paced the field with 157 team points. Nishnabotna was second with 116 points and Sidney third with 70.5. East Mills finished fourth with 64 team points.

The Knights placed in the top three in 14 of 16 events at the conference meet with Parker Powers snagging gold medals in the high jump, 110-meter high hurdles and anchoring the shuttle hurdle relay to a gold medal finish.

Freshman Jaeger Powers picked up his first conference title with a leap of 20 feet, nine inches to win the long jump.

East Mills had a strong showing at the conference meet by winning gold in the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relays and placing second in the shuttle hurdle relay. The Wolverines’ Matt Glockel earned a second and third place showing in the shot and discus, respectively.

On the girls side of the meet, the Knights were third with 114 team points. Sidney won nine gold medals and ran away with the girls team title.

The Knights got gold medal performances from Bailey Hauschild in the high jump and from their shuttle hurdle and distance medley relays. In all, Fremont-Mills placed in the top three in 11 events.

East Mills was led by Janette Scraft’s three gold medals in its fourth place team showing. Schraft won gold in the 800, 1,500 and 3,000-meters and was second in the 400.
