Jones takes second in 400 hurdles at Drake
Derek Jones was second in the 400-meter hurdles and ran the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay that finished just four tenths of a second behind Cedar Rapids Prairie’s time.
Jones’ time of 53.11, was a step off champion Jack Bergstrom’s time. The Johnston sophomore ran a 52.96.
Jones teamed with Brogan Weddum, Jared Cook and Brady Wheeler to run a 3:21.9 and set a new school record.
The Rams qualified for Drake in eight events.
Mitch Bowden placed 24th in the 110-meter hurdles and teamed with Sam Jameson, Dane Kruse and Kyle Bowden for a fourth place showing in the shuttle hurdle relay.
Grant May, was ninth in the long jump with a top leap of 21 feet, 5.75 inches. May also ran a leg on the 4x100-meter relay along with Kruse, Gage Shatava and Jameson that placed 59th.
The Ram’s sprint medley relay of May, Jameson, Jones and Cook placed seventh in 3:34.32.
