Hilda J. Bichel, 99, Glenwood

    Hilda Johanna Bichel, 99, of Glenwood, formerly of Silver City, passed away Sept. 13, 2011, in Council Bluffs. Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola. Pastor Stephany Sanborn officiated. Interment was in the Mineola Cemetery. Peterson Mortuary of Glenwood was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to MOSAIC.
    Hilda was born April 30, 1912, in Mills County, to Charles and Christina (Roenfeldt) Schroeder. She grew up on the farm and was united in marriage to Ferdinand Louis Bichel on Jan. 27, 1932. To this union five children were born: Joann, Charles, Larry, James and Richard. Hilda was employed with Glenwood Resource Center until her retirement. A longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola, Hilda enjoyed playing cards and gardening, and she loved her animals.
    Preceding Hilda in death were her parents, husband and five siblings. She is survived by her children: Joann Bock of Council Bluffs; Charles and wife Bernadean Bichel of Carson; Larry and wife Cheryl Bichel of Glenwood; James Bichel and Lynda Uleman of Elkhorn, Neb.; and Richard Bichel of Independence, Mo. She is also survived by six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Harry Schroeder of Boise, Idaho; nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends.
