Glenwood will limit seating at final two home football games

Beginning with this Friday’s homecoming game against Council Bluffs Lewis Central, the Glenwood Community School district will be limiting the number of fans who can attend the remaining two home football games due the COVID-19 pandemic.

The district had not capped attendance for the first two home football games but working closely with Mills County Public Health, the decision was made to limit ca- pacity at the remaining games, according to Glenwood Activities Director Jeff Bissen. Prior to the season opener, the district did in- stitute a mask requirement for all students in attendance and as spectators entering and exiting the facility and when moving about to also wear face coverings. Social distancing has also been emphasized along with asking family members to sit as a group.

Fans planning to attend this Fri- day’s homecoming game and the Oct. 2 game vs. Carroll will need a ticket voucher to enter. This ticket voucher will grant admission but fans will still be required to pay a $5 admission fee or present their athletics pass at the gate.

Bissen said the first home games against Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson and Treynor did not have a limited capacity and while both games were well attended, most directed health guidelines were followed.

Homecoming in Glenwood, however, presents a different challenge. “Homecoming has always been a wellsupported event and we felt limiting capacity at the football game during the COVID-19 pandemic was the safest thing to do for

all who attend the game,” he said. Not knowing what attendance would be for Friday’s game against an undefeated, top five-ranked rival like Lewis Central drove the decision to cap attendance.

“We realize all students, alumni and spectators would like an opportunity to attend school-sponsored sporting events, especially homecoming but with COVID restrictions, that isn’t possible at this time,” Bissen said. “Hopefully in the near future additional opportu- nities will become available for all spectators.”

To free up space in the stands for spectators, the school’s 153-member band will be performing from the north end zone and the student section is being moved to portable bleachers in the south end zone.

Varsity football players, band members, cheerleaders and dance team members, as well as coaches and sponsors will get four tickets for the final regular season home games. Freshmen football players will get two tickets for the homecoming game. A check-in list will used to list those spectators allowed to attend and tickets vouchers will be issued based on names submitted.

Sideline personnel, event workers and concession stand volunteers names for both games will be on a list at the entrances for sign in.

GCSD staff can request up to two vouchers for Friday’s game.

Extra tickets may be available if the stadium has not reached its ticket limitation capacity. Glenwood Booster Club members as of Sept. 11 that are not already receiving ticketscanmaketheirrequestsfor up to two tickets by emailing Glenwood Activities Director Jeff Bis- sen at bissenj@glenwoodschools. org.
