Glenwood girls sixth, boys fourth at A.L. Invite

The Glenwood girls placed sixth and the boys fourth at the Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln Cross Country Invitational on the campus of Iowa Western Community College on Saturday.

In damp, cool conditions, the Sioux City East girls ran away with the team crown with four runners among the top 13 finishers. Harlan took home the title on the boys side with 51 team points.
Missouri Valley’s Alexis Cook won the girls individual title with a time of 15:42 while Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson’s Eldon Warner was the boys champion in 16:49.

The Glenwood girls finished sixth with 153 team points. Hayley Matthews set a new school course record by eight seconds and was the Rams top place winner, finishing 16th. Other place winners for Glenwood were Jillian Finnegan (23rd), Natalie Shearer (29th), Grace Presley (40th) and Miranda Ruth (52nd).

“The girls competed at a high level and continued to move forward,” said Glenwood coach Brad Rasmussen. “The girls for the most part all ran faster than a year ago.  We are starting to find the right combination of runners to make up the varsity squad and yet be pushed by the junior varsity squad.”  

The Glenwood boys finished fourth as a team with 122 points. Cuentin Gray ran a 17:59 to place 11th. Ross Van Slyke placed 17th in 18:14 to give the Rams two top 20 finishers.
Also placing for Glenwood were William Ingles (32nd), Victor Salerno (33rd) and Giles Allan (35th)
