Glenwood girls 2-0 at A-D-M Tournament

The Glenwood girls soccer team finished 2-0 at the A-D-M Tournament in Adel this past weekend.

The Rams defeated Clear Creek Amana 2-0 and Des Moines Hoover 7-0 to stay a perfect 5-0 on the season.    

“I am very pleased with how the weekend turned out and it was definitely a great team effort to get both wins,” said Glenwood coach Amy Benson.

In Friday’s opener against Clear Creek Amana, the score was tied at 0-0 at the half before the Rams’ Avery Blasdel scored off an assist from Mia McCorkle.

“We had many opportunities to score in the first half, however we were unable to convert any to goals,” Benson said. “We continued to come out strong in the second half and were able to put a goal in early on in the 2nd half from Avery.  She received a ball from Mia and was able to take two touches and then finish it in the lower corner near post of the goal.”

Kelly Embray added an insurance goal off a header in the 56th minute, once again off a McCorkle assist.

Against Hoover, Nikki Schuppan got the goal onslaught going early with her boot in the 17th minute off a Lillian Becker assist. The Rams would add a McCorkle goal before halftime to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, Schuppan and McCorkle both found the back of the net again in the open minutes of play.
Blasdel, a Brooklyn Hanshaw shot and a Hoover own-goal completed the scoring.

“We once again had lots of shots early on in the game and were trying to find a way to score,” Benson said. “The girls had lots of nice passing and chances at goal.  We were also able to get some other players some playing time.”

Kendall Bardsley played every minute of both games in goal and had eight combined saves.
