FM girls seventh, boys ninth at Underwood meet

The Fremont-Mills girls and boys track teams traveled to the Underwood Co-ed Invitational Friday.

The Knights girls placed seventh as a team with 50.25 points and the boys finished with 34 points to place ninth.

The host Eagles swept the girls and boys team titles with 108 and 141 points, respectively.

Sophie Phillips and Clara Schaaf has strong days for the Fremont-Mills girls.

Schaaf was second in the long jump and third in the 100-meter hurdles. The senior also helped the shuttle hurdle relay to a third place finish and the 4x100-meter relay to a seventh place time.

Phillips’ best throw of 120 feet, eight inches was second in the discus. She also placed seventh in the shot.
The Knight’s James Switzer picked up a third place medal in the 400-meter hurdles and ran a leg on the shuttle hurdle relay that placed third.

Connor Alley was third in the shot put.

Knights competitive at A.L./T.J. Girls Invite

In a stacked field at the Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson Girls Invitational Thursday at Wickersham Athletic Complex, the Fremont-Mills girls held their own.

Abraham Lincoln won the meet with 115 points. Glenwood was the runner up with 109.

The Knights finished with 30 points, but competing against mostly Class 3A and 4A teams, won eight medals.

Fremont-Mills’ shuttle hurdle relay team of Clara Schaaf, McKayla Gartner, Lydia Alley and Bailey Hauschild had a particularly strong day, running a 1:11.15 for second place.

Schaaf picked up a fifth place medal in the 400-meter hurdles and the long jump.

Sophie Phillips added a fifth place finish in the discus.

Knights win C-A-M meet

A dominant day in the field events keyed the Fremont-Mills girls to the team title at the C-A-M Co-Ed Track Meet held in Atlantic Tuesday.

The Knights easily out-distanced runner up Sidney 144 to 103 in the team scoring, swept the field events and had second place finishers in three of the four events to put score 64 points in the field alone.

Kendra Fichter won the shot and Sophie Phillips the discus while Fichter was second in the discus and Phillips second in the shot. Clara Schaaf won the long jump with teammate Rachel Wietzki placing second. Bailey Hauschild won top honors in the high jump.

Schaff also picked up gold medals in the 400-meter hurdles and the shuttle hurdle relay along with Hauschild, McKayla Gartner and Lydia Alley.

Hauschild added a second place showing in the 100-meter hurdles.

The Fremont-Mills boys won five events and placed third in the team standings with 97 points. Woodbine was the meet champion with 141 points and the host Cougars were second with 107 points.

The Knights had a strong evening in the relays, winning  the 4x100, the sprint medley and distance medley events and placing second in the four others.

Also picking up gold medals were James Switzer in the 400-meter hurdles and Connor Alley in the shot put.
