Flights Of Honor
A traveling museum-style exhibit honoring military veterans and Gold Star families who have taken part in Heartland Honor Flights to Washington, D.C., is coming to Glenwood later this month.
The new Flights of Honor exhibit will be available for viewing Nov. 15-18 in the former Shopko store in the Glenwood shopping plaza.
The exhibit, created by Patriotic Productions of Omaha, includes hundreds of photos from the Heartland Honor Flights that took 3,466 veterans from Nebraska and some communities in western Iowa to Washington, D.C., from 2008-2019, to see the national military memorials built in their honor.
“The Flights of Honor exhibit provides opportunities for veterans to relive their experiences and for family members, volunteers and patriots of all ages to reminisce and educate others about the importance of thanking and honoring our veterans,” said Bill Williams, Patriotic Productions co-founder and Heartland Honor Flights coordinator. “The exhibit includes nine separate double-sided frames with photos of the flights for our World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Female and Purple Heart Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan.”
There is no admission fee to view the exhibit. Viewing hours will be Sunday, Nov. 15 from noon – 4 p.m.; Monday, Nov. 16, and Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 10 a.m. – noon. Because of COVID-19 concerns, ample space will be provided between exhibit display panels and all persons coming to view the exhibit are asked to wear a face mask.
The exhibit’s appearance in Glenwood is co-sponsored by The Opinion-Tribune newspaper and Sell Properties, owner of the shopping plaza in Glenwood. The exhibit’s underwriting sponsor is Sandhills Global of Lincoln, Neb.
Patriotic Productions is a non-profit organization with a mission of honoring America’s active military personnel and veterans by offering opportunities for those who wish to do the same. Initially focused on our nation’s fallen that called Nebraska home, an emotional traveling memorial – “Remembering Our Fallen” – was created, that soon expanded to 15 state-specific memorials since launching in 2010, with a national memorial now the focus.
