F-M edges East Mills on links

Cooper Marvel won top individual honors to lead Fremont-Mills to a dual win over East Mills at the Fairview Hills Golf Course in Malvern.

Marvel shot a 6-over-par round of 41 to win top honors. Knight teammates Jake Malcom and Cooper Langfelt both shot 41’s but lost out to Marvel on a tie-breaker.

The Knights edged the Wolverines 166-210 in the team scoring.

“We set a goal of breaking into the 160s,” said Fremont-Mills coach Greg Ernster. “The kids wanted to reach that and they performed well. The greens are tough in Malvern and I thought our kids adjusted well throughout the meet.  We had every one of our varsity boys shoot in the 40s and that was great to see.”

Ernster said he’s liked what he’s seen of his team as they continue their march to the post-season.

“We need to have our scores keep trending down as we prepare for sectionals and hopefully a shot at a very difficult district,” he said. “The kids have been doing a great job of working on the little things in practice. We focus a lot on our short game and if we can continue to get better at that then we can hopefully lower our scores.”

Lincoln Palmer shot a 47 to lead East Mills. Kyle Williams carded a 49 and Anthony Anderson and Jackson Williams each shot 57.

Fremont-Mills shot a team round of 176 to down Red Oak and Sidney in a triangular last Monday.
The Knights’ Jake Malcom won medalist honors with a round of 41. Caden Blackburn was the runner up with a 45.

Cooper Langfelt, Owen Thorntonand  JT Mahaney each carded 45’s.

Red Oak was led by Cyrus Mensen with a round of 52 and Sidney’s Kyle Beam shot a 46.
