Estle D. Darby, 92, Emerson

Estle Dee Darby, age 92, of Emerson, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak after an extended illness. Funeral services were held Dec. 7, 2008, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Burial was in the Farm Creek Cemetery in Henderson

Mr. Darby was born July 12, 1916, in Anderson Township of Mills County, the son of Samuel Monroe and Hattie Myrtle (Hooper) Darby. He was raised near Henderson, until about the age of 15 when the family moved to Hermitage, Mo., where they lived for a short time before moving back to Henderson. He attended Henderson High School. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Wilhelm on Jan. 31, 1940, in Glenwood. They farmed near Emerson for many years as well as selling Moorman’s Feeds. Mr. Darby also did carpentry work for many years. When they retired they moved to Branson, Mo., until 1995, when they moved back to Emerson. He was a member of the Emerson Masonic Lodge, the Community Club and the Senior Citizens. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, square dancing and traveling.

Mrs. Darby preceded him in death on March 13, 2007. Survivors include many nieces and nephews; Glenda Simmons of California, whom Mr. and Mrs. Darby raised for six years; and many other relatives and special friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Emerson Masonic Lodge or the Henderson Cemetery Association.
