East Mills boys win Fremont-Mills Coed Relays

TABOR - The East Mills boys cruised to the team title at the Fremont-Mills Coed Track meet Friday in Tabor.
The Wolverines racked up 164 teams points to the host Knights’ 115 team points.

The Wolverines got four gold medal performances from Travis Tupper. The senior won the 100, 200 and 400 and anchored the 4x400-meter relay to gold.

Joey Kammering (800-meters), Sam Rew (high jump, 110-meter hurdles), Michael Story (long jump) and the 4x800-meter relay team added gold medals for East Mills.

East Mills boys coach Claude Lang said Noah Meyer had a “solid, gutsy night” running a leg in the winning 4x800, placing third in the 400-meters, anchoring the distance medley to a third place finish and running a leg of the winning 4x400-meter relay.

The Wolverines entire 4x800 meter relay team of Meyer, Kammering, Louis Van Fosson and Luke Stortenbecker all ran splits faster than 2:18, which puts them within a second of the Corner Conference leader, South Page.

East Mills’ second place shuttle hurdle team of Keegan Wederquist, Ben Christensen, Chandler Foss and Rew broke the school-record with a time of 1:07.74

The host Knights were second in the team standings with 115 points. In all, Fremont-Mills earned four gold medals from Dakota Moss-Erikson (1600-meter run), Mackenzie Lang (3200-meter run), Parker Powers (high jump) and Spencer Phillips (shot put).

The Fremont-Mills girls were second at the meet with 115 points. Clarinda was the team champion with 132 points.

 The Knights won six gold medals led by Kelsey Hurley’s pair in the 200-meters and the high jump.
Taryn Williams won gold in the long jump and the Knights’ distance medley, sprint medley and 4x400-meter relays all added golds.

A pair of fourth place finishes led the East Mills girls by their 4x200 and 4x800-meter relays.
