Doris Mae (Clark) Alexander, age 81, of Red Oak

    Doris Mae (Clark) Alexander, age 81, of Red Oak, died at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital on Dec. 19, 2009. Services will be held today, (Wednesday), at 10:30 a.m., at Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home, Malvern.

    One of six children of Ethel Belle (Roots) Clark and George E. Clark, she was born on Aug. 23, 1928, in Hastings. She grew up in Hastings and graduated from high school in 1946. She married Dale Robert Alexander on April 12, 1947, in Hiawatha, Kan. They made their home on a farm north of Hastings, and in 1955, moved to a farm south of Silver City. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Michael Dale Alexander and Roger Dale Alexander. The family were active members of the East Liberty Church, north of Malvern. In addition to being a farm wife and mother, she also worked through the years, at the Henningsen Egg Plant in Malvern, was a cook at the Malvern Community School and worked in the General Relief Department in the Mills County Court House in Glenwood.

    In 1974, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander purchased and moved to a farm south of Red Oak. He continued to farm and she began working as a clothing clerk at Spurgeon’s in Red Oak, where she continued until her retirement. She enjoyed crocheting, square dancing, crafts, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandson.

    Mrs. Alexander was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ethel Clark; grandson Chad Michael Alexander; and sister Hazel Edie. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dale of Red Oak; sons, Mike and wife Phyllis (Johnson) Alexander of Malvern; and Roger and wife Debi (Farmer) Alexander of Griswold; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; brothers, George Clark of Des Moines; and Cecil Clark of Red Oak; sisters, Betty Benson of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Linda Davis of Upland, Calif.; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
