Dean Robert Score, age 77, of Glenwood

    Dean Robert Score, age 77, of Glenwood, died at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, on Sept. 2, 2009. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at the Hertz Funeral Home of Glenwood followed with burial in the Glenwood Cemetery. Pastor Darrell Hopp officiated.

    One of six children of Agnes and William Score, he was born in Petersburg, Neb., on July 14, 1932.  He grew up working on the family farm and attended country school.  At 18, he moved to Omaha, where he worked at the packing house and in car dealerships. He and Eleanor Fitzpatrick were married in 1955.  They made their home in Glenwood and were blessed with two children, Kenneth and LaDonna. The couple later divorced.  Mr. Score’s work included working for John Sprague at the Skelly gas station and at the Reed Farm Equipment store. In 1962, he began delivering milk for Robert’s Dairy in Glenwood and to the surrounding communities for 10 years. In 1972, he began driving for Trans-Con Freight Company and was a member of the Teamsters Union of the Central States.

    On Dec. 9, 1979, he married Francene Marie (Chambers) Lutter in Las Vegas, Nev. They made their home in Salt Lake City, Utah, for eight years before returning to Glenwood. In 1987, he retired from trucking, but began working at Gib Walter Motors and Allen Christensen Hardware.  He suffered a stroke in 1996, but was able to work in the auto department at Wal-Mart, until his heart attack in 2001 forced him to retire.  He was great with people and loved to visit and talk with everyone.

    Mr. Score was preceded in death by his parents; his infant brother, Gary Score; brother, Francis “Bud” Score; and twin sister, Donna Thompson.  He is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Francene Score of Glenwood; son, Ken Score and wife Kim of Collinsville, Okla.; daughter, LaDonna Crumpton and husband Adrian of Spring, Texas; three grandsons, stepchildren, Cathy Taysen and husband Tim of Bellevue, Neb.; Norman Lutter of Omaha; and Dan Lutter and wife Mary of Carson City, Nev.; two step-grandchildren; sister, Jean Logan of Valinda, Calif.; brother, LaVern Score of Albion, Neb.; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.  A memorial fund was established in Dean’s name.  Hertz Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
