         Kuemper Catholic jumped out to a 10-1 lead and led by as many as 21 in a 55-36 Hawkeye 10 Conference girls basketball victory over Glenwood on Friday.

  • Rams second at Rollin Dyer invite

        The Glenwood wrestling team had four champions and three other wrestlers reach the finals at the Rollin Dyer Invitational on Saturday in Atlantic.
        Johnston edged Glenwood 229.5 to 228 in the final team standings. The host Trojans were a distant third with 189.5 points.

  • Rams score 52 after halftime in...

        The Glenwood boys basketball team traveled to Clarinda and went home with a 87-39 victory over Clarinda Academy on Saturday.
        The Rams (2-2 overall, 0-2 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) led 35-26 at halftime but came out hot in the second half, out-scoring the Eagles 52-13 over the final two quarters.

  • Rams down Creston, 51-34

        The Glenwood girls basketball team got its second Hawkeye 10 Conference win of the season Friday in a 51-34 victory over Creston.
        A quick start, fueled by several steals created by the Rams’ pressure defense,  helped Glenwood jump out to a 17-5 first quarter lead.  

  • 17-0 run lifts Knights over...

          The Fremont-Mills girls rode a 17-0 second quarter run and a strong defensive effort to a 50-20 victory over Heartland Christian in Corner Conference basketball on Tuesday at Iowa Western Community College.
        After a rough first quarter on both ends of the court, the Knights rattled off 17 straight points in the second quarter to turn a slim 13-7 lead into a 30-7 halftime lead.

  • Knights stay perfect in Corner


                    Dakota Thomas scored 21 points and Clayton Wilson 14 to lead the Fremont-Mills boys basketball team to a 45-39 victory over Nishnabotna on Friday.
        The Knights (3-1 overall, 3-0 in the Corner Conference) used a 16-9 second quarter run to pull away.

  • Hillyer’s 27 leads Wolverines to...

        Colden Hillyer scored a career-high 27 points and East Mills boys out-scored Nishnabotna 35-18 in the second half en route to a 64-36 victory in Corner Conference basketball on Friday.
        The Wolverines connected on just 43 percent of their shots from the field (25-of-57) and 12-of-28 on free throws but they grabbed 13 steals and blocked six shots on the defensive end.
        Hillyer hit 11-of-18 shots and grabbed 18 rebounds.
        Keegan Wederquist and Joe VanSant each chipped in seven points.

  • Strong second half lifts...

       Glenwood took the lead briefly in the third quarter but couldn’t hold on as Class ranked No. 4 Atlantic out-scored the Rams’ 34-18 over the final 12:15 of the game to post a 58-43 Hawkeye 10 Conference boys basketball victory before a reporter-estimated 500 in Glenwood.

  • Blue Demons get past Wolverines

        Nishnabotna scored 44 first-half points in a 67-47 victory over East Mills in Corner Conference girls basketball on Friday.
        The Wolverines (1-3 overall, 0-1 in the conference) scored 32 first-half points of their own but couldn’t keep up with the Blue Demons.
        Joni Laughlin, Devin Laughlin and Katie Sowers each scored 11 points to lead East Mills. Brianna Weak added seven rebounds.

  • Rams win Dan Hill Invite

        The Glenwood boys wrestling team had two first place trophy winners and six more wrestlers place in the top three in their weight classes to take home the team title at the Dan Hill Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Saturday in Harlan.
        The Rams’ edged second place Gretna, Neb. 187.5 to 152.5 in the team scores.
        “We wrestled really well as a team,” said Glenwood coach Brad Asche. “Could have been better. We’re always looking to improve.”
