'Remembering The Fallen'

A traveling tribute to Iowa military personnel who have died in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars is on display this week at Glenwood Community High School.

“Remembering Our Fallen” is dedicated to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States. GCHS is one of a long list of schools across the state that has hosted the exhibit.
“We feel it’s important to go to the high schools,” exhibit co-founder Bill Williams said. “We feel it’s important for the kids to stand up in front of it and take a look at the pictures of those who have sacrificed.”
The first “Remembering the Fallen” exhibits were created for fallen military service members in Nebraska and Iowa, but Williams and his wife, Evonne, have expanded the tribute to several states across the nation.

“Without a draft, these people stood up and paid the ultimate sacrifice,” Williams said. “We should all honor these people.”
Williams will visit with GCHS students about the display Thursday afternoon.
Community residents are encouraged to stop by the school to see “Remembering The Fallen,” which is on display until Friday. Glenwood State Bank is sponsoring the exhibit’s appearance at GCHS.
