Rams 1-2 at A-D-M Tourney

The Glenwood girls soccer team went 1-2 at the A-D-M Invitational Tournament on Saturday in Adel.

Two of the Rams’ three matches came down to overtime with one being a 2-1 shootout win over Bondurant in game two.

The Rams (4-3 overall, 1-0 in the conference) opened the tournament with 1-0 double-overtime loss to Des Moines Roosevelt. The Roughriders’ game-winner came in the final minute of the second overtime.

“This game was a pretty physical matchup,” said Glenwood coach Amy Benson.  “DMR was very aggressive both on and off the ball. Unfortunately, we had a hard time finding opportunities to take shots during this game.  Both teams fought hard into the second overtime when we had a defensive mistake that DMR was able to capitalize on.”
In the second game, the Rams got a goal from Sydney Johnson, off a Sarah Homan assist, for a 1-1 tie to send the match with Bondurant into extra time.

After two scoreless overtimes, the two teams headed to the shootout phase. Homan, Sydney Gutschenritter, and Sydney Stivers’ goals were matched by the Bluejays before Ram keeper Kristin Nakamoto deflected the fourth Bondurant shot. Ana Frazee and Sara Gutschenritter each hit their final shots to secure the win.

“This was also an extremely hard fought game from both teams,” Benson said.  “In the shootout, Kristen made a huge save that was key.  Then Sara was able to keep composure to find the back of the net for the win.”

An exhausted Ram team limped into their final match with North Scott and the Lancers took advantage with both of their goals coming in the first half.

“We were really tired this game after going into a double overtime the night before and going into a shoot out right before this game,” Benson said. “The girls gave a valiant effort but unfortunately had a hard time building an offensive attack.  This game showed us what we need to continue to work on during this season.”
