Ram harriers eighth, ninth at state qualifier
The Glenwood girls cross country team placed eighth and boys ninth at the Class 3A State Qualifying Meet in Winterset on Thursday.
Perry’s Atem Akok was the boys individual champion with a time of 16:24. Ballard’s Abby Kohut-Jackson was the girls champion with a top time of 14:32.
The top 10 runners in each regional/district site qualify for this week’s state cross country meet.
The Humboldt girls, with three runners in the top 10, was the team champion with 67 points. The boys team title went to Harlan with 63 points to easily out-pace second place Dallas Center-Grimes’ 96 points.
The Glenwood girls finished with 167 points, two points behind seventh place Creston. The Rams were paced by Lizzy Young’s 21st place showing. The junior ran a 16:12. Also placing for Glenwood was Hannah McCue (33rd), Molly Dean (34th), Jillian Finnegan (39th) and Felicia Arrellano (40th).
The Glenwood boys team got a 20th place finish from Baker Cambridge to finish with 202 team points. Cambridge finished with a time of 17:57.
Other place winners for the Rams were Cuentin Gray (28th), Victor Salerno (46th), Nick Maestas (48th) and Ross Van Slyke (60th).
