Quick start propels Rams to 69-62 win

OMAHA - Glenwood got off to a quick start offensively, held on late and picked up a hard fought, 69-62 victory over North Bend Central (Neb.) at the 30th Annu- al Nebraska Prep Clas- sic at Sokol Arena on the campus of Creigh- ton University Saturday night.

The Rams’ hot shoot- ing to open the game, hitting 6-of-7 shots from the field, including 3-of- 3 from behind the arc, sparked an 18-5 early lead that swelled to as many as 14 points in the second quarter.
“We hit some big shots

and I thought we executed pretty well in the first half,” said Glenwood coach Curt Schulte after the game. “The second half they went on some runs but we weathered the storm and knocked down free throws.”

The Nebraska Class C1 No. 8 ranked Tigers (10-3) did indeed storm back on the Rams. After trailing 37-27 at the half, North Bend cut the lead to 43-40 midway through the third quarter.

In the fourth, the Tigers opened the frame ona9-2runtotieitup at 54-54 with five minutes to go.

But the Rams responded with a layup by Silas Bales and free throws by Ben Hughes and Caden Johnson in a 6-0 spurt to put their lead to 60-54 with 3:34 to go.

North Bend’s Breckin Peters made it 61-58 with just over two minutes to go but that’s as close as the Tigers would get.

Glenwood hit 7-of-8 free throws in the final 1:05 to lock up the win. They finished the night 18-of-23 at the line.

“They are a very good ball club,” Schulte said. “They’re disciplined, well coached, they play smart. I’m real proud of our team tonight. We beat a really good team tonight.”

Ryan Blum, who scored a 19 first half points, finished with a game-high 29.

“Ryan had a fantastic game. He did a lot of good things. They started doubling him in the second half and he did a great job finding open guys. All the kids played very well and played together.”

One of those players was Bales, the Rams’ do-everything forward who was active on both ends of the court and scored 11 points.

“Silas had a tremendous game,” Schulte said. “Not only on the offensive end but he did some great things defensively and rebounding.”
