  • Nickerson To Replace 'Hutch' As GCHS Principal

    Less than a month after Glenwood Community High School Principal Richard Hutchinson announced he was stepping down from his administrative position, his replacement has been named.

    And the school district didn’t have to go very far to get him.

    In a special meeting on Friday, the Glenwood Community School District Board of Education officially approved the hiring of Rick Nickerson as the new principal.

    Nickerson has served as assistant principal at the school since 2012.

  • Rams rout St. Albert 7-0

    The Glenwood boys soccer team continued its winning ways with a 7-0 rout of Council Bluffs St. Albert Thursday in Glenwood.

    The Rams (5-6), winners of their last three, picked up two first half goals and cruised to the win.

  • Rams cap perfect week with dual win

    The Glenwood boys gold team capped a perfect week with 157 to 189 dual victory over Council Bluffs St. Albert at Fox Run Golf Course in Council Bluffs.

    The Rams’ Ryan Leath shot a 1-over-par 37 to win top medalist honors at the dual. Medalist runner-up honors went to Glenwood’s Dax Lappala with a round of 39.

  • Fremont-Mills girls win own relays, boys second

    The Fremont-Mills girls and boys combined to win 12 events at their Co-ed relays last Tuesday in Tabor.

    The Knight girls won four events and captured the team crown with 136 points, 19 better than runner up Southwest Valley. Fremont-Mills grabbed eight gold medals to place second behind Sidney, 165 to 118.

    Kendra Fichter picked up a pair of top showings in both the shot and the discus. Also winning gold was Kenna Howard in the high jump and the Knights’ shuttle hurdle relay. The F-M girls also placed second in six other events.

  • Rams' Schraft wins gold at Drake Relays

    Janette Schraft won her first ever Drake Relays gold medal and placed in the top seven in three other events on a frigid weekend at the 110th running of the meet dubbed “America’s Athletic Classic’’ in Des Moines.

  • Rams offense clicks in 6-2 victory over Harlan

    Brooklyn Hanshaw recorded a hat trick and Glenwood got by Harlan 6-2 in Hawkeye 10 Conference girls soccer Thursday in Harlan.

    The Rams (3-5), who had dropped five of their previous six games, earned their second conference win behind a quick offense starts that saw them score three goals in the match’s first 12 minutes.

  • Glenwood snaps skid with 2-0 win

    The Glenwood boys soccer team snapped a six match losing streak with a 2-0 shutout victory over Atlantic last Monday at home.

    The Rams (3-6) controlled possession much of the game Lovato said but it was his team’s tempo that showed improvement in the win.

    “The boys played much better and at a faster pace,” Lovato said.  It was nice to see the boys with fresh legs and energy. 

  • Knights third at Sidney invite

    Fremont-Mills placed third at the Sidney Invitational Track Meet held in Tabor on Thursday.

    The “host” Cowboys won the team title with 143 points. The Glenwood junior varsity squad was second with 117 points and the Knights third with 76.

    East Mills placed sixth in the team standings with 42 points.

  • Rams grab three top 10 finishes at Kansas Relays

    The Glenwood girls picked up a trio of top 10 finishes at the highly competitive Kansas Relays in Lawrence, Kan. over the weekend.

    Competing against the best of the best from nine Midwest states, the Rams’ Janette Schraft won the steeplechase and the girls sprint relay team of Sadey Allgood, Bailey Ostrander, Abby Hughes and Emma Hughes placed 10th. Sydney Biermann added a 10th place showing the shot with a top toss of 38 feet, 1.5 inches.

  • Incident Management Team Overseeing P.J. Re-entry

    The city of Pacific Junction is getting some assistance from the Iowa Incident Management Team as residents begin re-entry into a community that’s suffered catastrophic flood damage over the past month.
