  • New Name, New Game For Malvern Golf Course

    MALVERN - The overhaul of the former Fairview Country Club is almost complete.
        In just over a month, Mills County golfers will get their first opportunity to play a round of their favorite sport on Malvern's new Fairview Hills golf course. The course is projected to open June 1.

       Malvern banker and golfer Jay Burdic said the nine-hole, par 35 Fairview Hills is more than a renovation of the community's 83-year-old course, located south of the Mills County Fairgrounds. It's a whole new golfing experience.

  • Going Green: City-County Recycling Dilemma

    Plastic bottles blow and tumble in the April winds. Tin cans spill out of the mouth of a 20-foot steel box. Soggy cardboard sprouts from puddles. Scraps of paper, smudged remnants of junk mail and newspapers, litters the gravel lot. The smell, slightly less than that of garbage, festers in the air.

        No, it’s not a landfill.
        It’s the Glenwood Recycling Center.

  • Promoting Financial Literacy

    Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds paid a visit to Glenwood's West Elementary School last Wednesday to get a first-hand look at the school’s Ram Savings Bank and to promote a statewide financial literacy initiative.

        The governor has signed a proclamation declaring April as Financial Literacy Month in Iowa.

  • Moore’s four goals lead Rams in win

        Michaela Moore scored four goals and the Glenwood girls soccer team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 5-1 victory over Harlan in Hawkeye 10 Conference soccer on Friday.

  • Rain dampens Rams at Sioux City Relays

        In a meet shortened by lightning and potential serious weather approaching, the Glenwood boys track team was able to get through just nine of 15 events at the Sioux City Relays on Saturday at Morningside College. 

        The Rams got gold medals from Derek Jones in the 400-meter low hurdles and from their shuttle hurdle relay team of Sam Jameson, Dane Kruse, Kyle Bowden and Mitch Bowden.  In all, Glenwood placed in five of the nine events.
