Glenwood Gets Its First Taste Of Runza

The wait is over.
The Runza sandwich has finally arrived in Glenwood.
The popular Runza sandwich and burger restaurant chain opened its 91st store in Glenwood on Monday at 710 S Locust St.
“We are proud to expand our store network and excited to bring a Runza Restaurant to the area,” stated Donald Everett, Jr., President of Runza National.
Ethan Hall, franchise owner, said he’s pleased to open his first Runza restaurant in Glenwood.
“Glenwood is a thriving community and we are pleased to be part of the growth,” he said.
The Lincoln, Neb.-based restaurant chain is known for its signature stuffed beef and cabbage sandwiches, Runza’s menu includes burgers, chicken sandwiches and strips, salads, fries and onion rings. Founded in 1949, the restaurant currently has locations in Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, Kansas and Missouri. Glenwood is the third location in Iowa and is expected to employ 30 team members.
News of Monday’s soft opening spread quickly and by noon the drive-thru line at Runza was eight cars deep.

The Glenwood Runza location was originally forecasted to open in the spring of 2023, but because the site is in a flood zone, additional steps had to be taken to meet requirements of the Department of Natural Resources. Runza contractors and engineering consultants worked with the DNR to get the construction plan for the site approved. Runza will share its building with Pizza Hut, which is still under construction. Pizza Hut has not announced an opening date for its new Glenwood restaurant.
