Mills County Has 75-percent Election Turnout

More than 75 percent of registered voters in Mills County participated in the 2020 general election.

“It was definitely the largest turnout we’ve had in all the years I’ve been here,” Mills County Auditor and Election Commissioner Carol Robertson said.

Robertson said 8,287 of 11,003 registered voters in Mills County cast a ballot. Over 5,000 of those were cast early/absentee – most in person at the auditor’s office or placed in a ballot drop box at the courthouse.

“Very few came through the mail. The vast majority were dropped off,” Robertson said.

Early and mail-in voting reached record levels across the country, due in great part to public health concerns relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although there were no contested races at the county level, high interest in state and federal races fueled voter turnout locally.

Nationally, approximately 150 million ballots were cast.
