Knights’ Hurley, Powers earn medals at state track
Fremont-Mills’ Kelsey Hurley medaled in three events and Parker Powers was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles at the Class 1A Iowa State Track and Field Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
The Knight girls finished with 20.5 points to place 10th in the girls Class 1A standing. Hudson was the girls champion with 72 points.
Hurley had a strong opening day at state qualifying for Saturday’s finals in the 200 and 400-meters. The senior would go on to place seventh with a time of 26.84 in the 200 and a 59.21 in the 400 to place third. She added a bronze medal in the high jump with a top leap of 5 feet, 3 inches.
Clara Schaaf added a 19th place finish in the 400-meters.
The Knights girls’ shuttle hurdle relay team of Clara Schaaf, Kynzie Fichter, Taryn William and Andrea McClary placed fourth with a time of 1:09.16.
McClary reached the finals in the 100-meter hurdles where the senior placed seventh with a time of 16.35.
The Fremont-Mills boys placed 33rd with seven points. Lisbon was the boys champion with 42.
Powers ran a 15.50 to place fourth in the 110-meter hurdles.
Powers, a sophomore, also anchored the shuttle hurdle relay to a 14th place finish. The team of Adam Todd, Mackenzy Lang, Broc Hansen and Powers ran a 1:02.50. The Knights’ 4x100-meter relay team of Sam Phillips, Broc Hansen, Haydn Meier and Powers also placed 14th with a time of 45.64.
East Mills’ Sam Rew, a two time state qualifier, was ninth in the high jump with a top leap of 5 feet, 11 inches.
