Court dates Being Set for Three People Facing Charges in Glenwood Altercation

Trial dates have been set for two of the three people facing charges related to a Sept. 27 altercation and shooting outside the residence of Glenwood Community High School principal Richard Hutchinson.
Hutchinson and two other people were injured during the incident, which stemmed from racial slurs made in the presence of Hutchinson and his wife, Randi.

Denver Cook, 18, of Glenwood, and Colton McDaniel, 21, of Glenwood, are accused of physically assaulting Richard Hutchinson.

Hurl Beechum, III, 42, of Queen Creek, Ariz., (Richard Hutchinson’s step-son) is accused of shooting McDaniel.

Cook is charged with willful injury, a class “C” felony; and assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor. His attorney has requested a speedy trial, but no court date has been set.

McDaniel is charged with assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor. His trial is scheduled for Dec. 15.

Beechum is charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a class “C” felony; willful injury, a class “D” felony; going armed with intent, a class “D” felony; and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor. He has a jury trial scheduled for Jan. 20, 2016.

Charges indirectly related to the Sept. 27 incident have been dismissed against a fourth person, 20-year-old Liam R. Whitehouse. He was accused of making threatening facebook posts and seeking “vigilante justice” shortly after McDaniel was shot.

Whitehouse was charged with going armed with intent, a Class “D” felony and carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor, when a pellet gun was found under the driver’s seat of his vehicle and a samurai sword was discovered in the trunk after a traffic stop initiated by police officers, who were aware of Whitehouse’s facebook posts. Prosecutors dropped the charges because the search was conducted without Whitehouse’s consent.
