Wolverines get first win, fall in home finale

    The East Mills volleyball team lost its home finale 25-21, 16-25, 25-15, 25-14 to Sidney on Thursday.  
    “We dug ourselves a hole early in game one and fought back to close the gap,” said East Mills coach Connie Blank.  “Game two we played really well for the win.  However in games three and four our serve receive struggled and we just didn’t put it together.”

    Shelby Sommerla led with nine kills, 11 digs, and two aces.  Amanda Bazer had eight kills and two digs.  Zoe Frink led the offense with 12 assists.  Amy Walker added seven assists, six kills, and served 4-for-4.  Jordan Jennings contributed four kills and nine digs.  Kara Helbling led the defense with 12 digs and Chelsey Christensen served 14-for-15 with two aces.

    East Mills drops to 1-17 on the season and 1-6 in the Corner Conference.

    The East Mills volleyball team earned its first win of the season last Tuesday with a 25-17, 25-7, 25-18 sweep of Clarinda Academy.
    “Tonight’s win was a complete team effort,” said East Mills coach Connie Blank.
    Amanda Bazer led the attack with 10 kills and Shelby Sommerla added four kills and four digs.  

    Kelsey Croghan contributed three kills and served 27-for-31 with eight aces.  Croghan served 18 in a row in the second game of the night.
    Amy Walker led the defense with seven digs and added eight assists.
