An Omaha man was killed on Interstate 29 Monday when he attempted to make a U-turn in a construction zone south of Glenwood.

John L. Agnew, 74, of Omaha died when his pick-up truck was struck by a southbound semi-truck shortly after 8:45 a.m. Monday.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Agnew pulled onto the southbound shoulder and was attempting to make a U-turn back onto northbound Interstate 29 for unknown reasons when his vehicle was broadsided on the driver’s side by a southbound semi-truck driven by Ruben Monge, 37, of Omaha.
The stretch of Interstate 29 just south of the 35-mile marker is a construction zone with both directions of traffic diverted into two lanes.
Agnew was pronounced dead at the scene.
Agnew’s vehicle was thrown to the northbound shoulder. The semi-truck came to rest in the middle of Interstate 29, blocking traffic for over an hour.
The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
