Mills County Relay For Life Set For Saturday, June 9

-A A +A

The 22nd annual Mills County Relay For Life (RFL) will be held Saturday, June 9, at Glenwood Lake Park. The event will begin with opening ceremonies at 5 p.m. and conclude with fireworks after the 10 p.m. closing ceremonies.

The relay is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. This year’s relay will mark the third time the event is being held at the Davies Amphitheater and Glenwood Lake Park.

Highlights of this year’s Relay For Life will include a cancer survivor ceremony and a luminary lighting ceremony. The ceremony remembers those lost to cancer and honors those who have survived or are currently fighting the disease. Luminaria candles will be lit at the park on sidewalks leading to the amphitheater at 8 p.m.

Anyone wanting to purchase a luminaria may do so by contacting any Relay Team captain or by calling Paula Reeves at 712-525-1150. Luminaria bags are available for a donation of $5 and may also be purchased at Glenwood State Bank. The luminaria bags may be personalized with messages and artwork.

There is still time for cancer survivors to register for  RFL or for potential participants to join a team. Go to www.relayforlife.org/millscountyia or contact Amy Stickrod (402-650-5784), Mary Simms (712-310-5680), or Kathy Reisner (402-917-5393) to get started.
