Mayberry, Kohn, Robertson, Goos Advance In GOP Primary

Lonnie Mayberry and Ron Kohn were the top two finishers in the race for two seats on the board of supervisors in last Tuesday's Mills County Republican primary election.

Mayberry received 985 votes, outdistancing incumbents Kohn (950 votes) and Joe Blankenship (569 votes). Mayberry and Kohn both advance to November's general election where they're likely to be unopposed to fill the two seats. No Democratic candidates were on the primary ballot and no other known candidates are seeking election at this time.
In the only other contested GOP county race in the primary, incumbent Mills County Auditor Carol Robertson defeated challenger Angie Winquist, 906-571. Robertson is also likely to be elected in November as no other candidates are currently seeking that position.
Incumbent Mills County Sheriff Eugene Goos is running unopposed and collected 1,368 votes in the Republican primary.
In the contested Republican race for state representative (District 23), Mark Costello defeated Raymond Chase in Mills County, 764-420. Costello also won the district-wide vote by a count of 1,703-852 and will likely be unopposed in the general election. State senate District 12 candidate Joni Ernst was unopposed in the primary and received 1,134 votes in Mills County. She tallied 5,349 across the district.
Of Mills County’s 10,540 registered voters, 1,626 (15.4 percent) participated in the primary.
