Kaufman named to district first team

Glenwood Community High School sophomore Taylor Kaufman was selected by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association for its 2009 Class 3A All-District first team in the west district.

Kaufman was tabbed for the first team as an outfielder after leading the 22-9 Rams in hitting (.456), hits (44), triples (eight), home runs (five) and runs batted in (41). The lefthander also went 5-0 with five saves on the mound.

Ram pitcher Drake Ruth and catcher Bryan Harless were named to the second team. Ruth, a sophomore, led the Rams on the hill with a 6-3 record, 58 strikeouts and a 2.90 earned run average. Harless, a junior, hit .293 with 17 RBIs and two home runs at the plate and was 4-1 with a 2.14 ERA on the mound.
