Fourth of July Celebration Friday in Glenwood

By Joe Foreman, Editor

The organizer of the inaugural Blues, Brews & BBQ Independence Day celebration said Friday’s event at Glenwood Lake Park promises to offer something for all ages.

Just as its name implies, the Independence Day celebration will feature Blues music, craft beers from Iowa and Nebraska and plenty of barbecue.

“Since this is the first year, we don’t really know how many people to expect, but the weather is looking good so we hope we have a great turnout,” organizer Randy Romens said. “It’s a fundraiser for the Mills County trail system.”

Five Blues bands will provide the musical entertainment from 12:30-9:30 p.m. The line-up includes Southbend, Swampboy Blues Band, Hector Anchondo Band, Steve Byam and 40 Sinners, and Shawn Holt and the Teardrops.
Admission tickets will be required to enter the music venue. Tickets can be purchased online for $10 until Thursday. A ticket link can be found on the Blues, Brews & BBQ facebook page.

Admission at the gate on Friday will be $15. Children under the age of 12 get free admission with a ticketed adult.

There is no admission charge to visit the Iowa Craft Beer tent, enjoy a pulled pork or rib dinner or take part in canoe rides that will be coordinated by Mills County Conservation personnel from 4 - 7 p.m.

Romens said the day’s festivities will conclude with a fireworks display by Night Visions Fireworks, around dusk after the last Blues band has wrapped up its performance.

The parking lot at Glenwood Lake Park will be closed to parking during event hours, except for vehicles with handicapped placards. Overflow parking will be available elsewhere in the park and at Glenwood Community High School.
The music, food and beer tent will be located in the northeast corner of the park. The remainder of the park will remain open for normal activity throughout the day.

The annual non-denominational Fourth of July worship service at the Davies Amphitheater will take place at 9 a.m. Parking for the service will be available on the grassy area behind the amphitheater.
