City Sets 2013-14 Budget

A public hearing on the city of Glenwood’s proposed budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year will take place Tuesday, March 12, at 7 p.m. in the Ron Bales City Council Chamber at City Hall.

Glenwood City Administrator Brian Kissel said the $4.2 million budget will include funding for some major road projects, including repaving and renovation of Vine Street from near the Glenwood Post Office south to the Keg Creek bridge and the paving of Railroad Ave. between the Mills County Engineeer’s building to the southern edge of the city limits.

The proposed budget also includes some money for work at the Glenwood Public Library, potential funding for structural and equipment needs of the Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department, further development of the city’s website and the purchase of media and audio visual equipment for City Hall and the council chamber.

Omaha-based JEO Consulting has been awarded the engineering contract for the roof and brick restoration project at the Glenwood Public Library. JEO’s bid of $22,900 was one of three bids presented to the city council for consideration at a meeting Tuesday, Feb. 26. Glenwood’s Ebmeier Engineering submitted a bid of $29,610 and the Franks Design Group, also of Glenwood, bid $19,400. Kissel said Franks Design Group wasn’t selected because it contained the potential for additional costs.

Kissel said JEO will serve in a general contractor capacity on the project. In addition to the roof and brick replacement and restoration work, the project will also entail some mechanical work and relocation of air conditioning units.
