  • Glenwood pulls away in second...

    The Glenwood girls out-scored Denison 30-19 in the second half to pull away from Denison in a 59-45 Hawkeye 10 Conference girls basketball victory Friday.

    Molly Dean led the way for the Rams (10-11 overall, 4-6 in the conference) with 22 points. Halie Darrow added 12 and Danika Lucy 13.

  • Fremont-Mills suffers third...

    Clarinda Academy handed Fremont-Mills its third straight loss to close the regular-season with a 42-41 victory in Corner Conference boys basketball last Tuesday.

    The Knights (17-5 overall, 14-2 in the Corner Conference) struggled offensively against the Eagles, shooting just 27.8 percent from the field (17-of-61) and were out-rebounded 49 to 29. The 41 points were a season-low.

    Sam Phillips paced Fremont-Mills with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

    Clarinda Academy was led by Kenny Hicks with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

  • East Mills advances six to...

    TRI-CENTER - The East Mills wrestling team advanced to this Saturday’s Class 1A, District Wrestling Meet with a second place showing at sectionals in Tri-Center Saturday.

    The Wolverines had six district qualifiers, second only to sectional champion Logan-Magnolia’s 11. East Mills’ Ben Christiansen (120 pounds), Alec Moorman (132), Luke Stortenbecker (145), Josh Hopkins (152), Nick Perkins (220) and Anthony Ossman (285) were among the district qualifiers.

    Moorman, Hopkins, Perkins and Ossman all won their weight classes.

    TABOR — Fremont-Mills’ hopes of an undefeated Corner Conference boys basketball season came crashing down Friday night as Noah Meyer’s putback with 38 seconds left lifted East Mills to a 57-56 victory Friday in the Lied Gymnasium.

  • Knights stay perfect with 65-38...

    TABOR — The Fremont-Mills girls’ basketball team remained undefeated heading into their Top 10 showdown with the Shenandoah Fillies Monday night after defeating East Mills 65-38 in Corner Conference action Friday night.

    The Knights (19-0 overall, 15-0 in the conference)) started the game on a 10-2 run, which resulted in them taking a 20-11 lead after one quarter.

  • Hot third quarter dooms Rams

    A red-hot third quarter helped Harlan turn a three-point halftime lead into a 11 point lead heading into the final quarter as the Cyclones out-dueled Glenwood 66-51 in Hawkeye 10 Conference boys basketball Friday.

    “We had several shots that went in and out during that time frame,” said Glenwood coach Curt Schulte.   
    Jacob Lewis led the way for Glenwood with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Wyatt Schulz and Dylan Stouder added 10 each.

  • Cyclones roll through Glenwood

    Top ranked Harlan’s started each half strong and pulled away from Glenwood in a 68-33 Hawkeye 10 Conference girls basketball victory Friday in Glenwood.

    Harlan (18-0 overall, 10-0) led 8-5 after three minutes and then went on a 12-3 run to go ahead 20-8 after one quarter.  Glenwood (9-10 overall, 4-6 in the conference) would hang in until the final few seconds of the half when Harlan scored five straight to push the lead to 38-22 at the break.  

    The Cyclones girls came out of the locker room hot, out-scoring Glenwood 21-7 in the third quarter.

  • Malcom first, Rams fourth at...

    Matt Malcom won his second straight conference wrestling title and Glenwood finished fourth in the team standings at the Hawkeye 10 Conference Tournament Saturday in Glenwood.

    Creston edged Council Bluffs Lewis Central 245 to 235 in the team scores to wrap up its fourth straight conference crown. The Panthers finished with three individual champs and 10 top six finishers.
    The Rams finished fourth with 213 points, 10.5 behind third place Clarinda.

  • Currin comes up big in win

    Logan Currin scored 21 points and Keegan Wederquist 16 to lead East Mills to a 56-49 victory over Sidney in Corner Conference boys basketball Friday.

    The Wolverines (11-5 overall, 10-3 in the conference) used a 25-15 third quarter run to pull away from the Cowboys.

    Currin hit 6-of-8 three pointers en route to his team-high 21 points. Wederquist added 12 rebounds and a pair of steals.

    Jacob Cain and Dylan Lucas paced Sidney with 12 points each.

  • Hot shooting lifts Glenwood past...

    Glenwood hit 6-of-10 first half three pointers and 13 different Rams scored in a 72-38 rout of Clarinda in Hawkeye 10 Conference boys basketball last Tuesday.

    The Rams (8-8 overall, 4-4 in the conference) turned a nine-point lead after a quarter into 35-15 halftime lead thanks to some hot shooting from the perimiter and patience on the offensive end.
