  • Rams kick off football season...

    The Glenwood football team opens its 2009 season on Friday with a 7:30 p.m. game against Council Bluffs St. Albert at Al Leber Field.

    The Rams, 3-6 a year ago, return 12 letterwinners from a team that lost on a 24-yard field goal with :09 left on the clock to the Falcons last season. St. Albert finished last season in the state playoff quarterfinals with a 28-21 loss to West Lyon in a 9-2 season.

  • The Golden Years

    As a runner in the 110m hurdles stands in the starting line of a world championship race, there is a lot going through his mind.

    They must stay stretched and warm. They must explode out of the starting blocks as quickly as possible to get a great start. They envision staying low to the hurdles while keeping their timing as they land and prepare for the next.

    Mike Godbout, a Red Oak High School graduate who calls Glenwood home, had that focus Aug. 6, when he ran for the United States track team, and won the gold.

  • Kaufman named to district first...

    Glenwood Community High School sophomore Taylor Kaufman was selected by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association for its 2009 Class 3A All-District first team in the west district.

    Kaufman was tabbed for the first team as an outfielder after leading the 22-9 Rams in hitting (.456), hits (44), triples (eight), home runs (five) and runs batted in (41). The lefthander also went 5-0 with five saves on the mound.

    Glenwood Community High School sophomore Taylor Kaufman was selected by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association for its 2009 Class 3A All-District first team in the west district.

    Kaufman was tabbed for the first team as an outfielder after leading the 22-9 Rams in hitting (.456), hits (44), triples (eight), home runs (five) and runs batted in (41). The lefthander also went 5-0 with five saves on the mound.

  • The Summer 2009 All-Mills County...

    Softball

    IF Morgan Esary, Sr., Fremont-Mills: Third baseman led the team with 15 doubles and shared team lead with four home runs while batting .325 and driving in 35 runs.

    IF *Jessica Donahue, Sr., Fremont-Mills: Led the Knights with 43 RBIs and 25 stolen bases. Also hit .396 with 10 doubles and four triples.

    IF Ana VanScoy, So., Glenwood: Shortstop hit .355 with 14 doubles and 16 RBIs. Also stole nine

    bases and scored 22 runs.

  • The Summer 2009 All-Mills County...

    Softball

    Glenwood Community High School softball players Sophie Ringsdorf, Molly Bryan and Ana VanScoy have been selected as members of the All-Hawkeye 10 Conference softball team for the 2009 season by a league wide vote of conference coaches.

    Ringsdorf and Bryan were both repeat first team selections. VanScoy was named to the second team. VanScoy was an honorble mention selection a year ago.

  • Glenwood girls fourth at Atlantic

    The Glenwood girls track team placed fourth at the Trojan/Trojann Co-Ed Invitational Track Meet on Friday in Atlantic.

    Despite missing some key team members to illness, the Rams still finished two spots higher at the meet than last season.

    “For the most part we ran pretty well,” said Glenwood coach Brad Rasmussen, noting his team's first place finish in the distance medley relay. “We were trying some different things that night, trying to see if Jenna (Turcotte) could run the 4x800 and turn around and anchor the distance medley and she did that.
