  • Knights rout Cowgirls

    Jessica Donahue had four of the Fremont-Mills softball team's season-high 16 hits in a 15-1 Corner Conference victory over Sidney on Thursday.

    The Knights improve to 9-4 overall and remain undefeated at 5-0 in the conference.

    Donahue, a senior shortstop, was 4-for-5 at the plate with a pair of doubles and two runs driven in.

    Pitcher Mindy Lorimor, who struck out 13 and scattered five hits over six innings of work to earn the win in the circle, helped her own cause with two hits and three RBIs.

    The Glenwood girls soccer team capped its first Hawkeye 10 Conference title season with four first-team selections on the 2009 all-conference team.

    Mallory Hoyt, Michaela Moore, Hope Forman and Nicole Sowers were all tabbed for the first team from Glenwood. Moore, a freshman, led the 14-2 Rams with 17 goals this season. Hoyt led the team in assists with 12 and was second in goals with 15.

    Forman and Sowers were both recognized for their sterling defensive work. Sowers, a senior, started every game in goal for the Rams this year.

    The Glenwood girls soccer team capped its first Hawkeye 10 Conference title season with four first-team selections on the 2009 all-conference team.

    The Knight offense pounded out eight hits, led by first baseman Hannah Fichter’s 3-for-4 night. Lorimor, Emily Aistrope, Lauren Furnas, Chelsea Younts and Lynde Madison each added a hit.

    A Bryan Harless' single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh gave the Glenwood baseball team a come-from-behind 11-10 victory over A-D-M at the Clarinda Baseball Invitational Tournament on Saturday.

    “We really played well,” said Glenwood coach Brett Elam. “We had all the momentum, lost it and never gave up. The kids kept fighting and scrapping.”

    Nicole Charland added a double and a homerun and drove in two runs.

    “This is the hitting I’ve been waiting for,” said Glenwood coach Tim Stanton. “We’d been hitting good these last few games but our power really showed up this game.”
