  • Glenwood tops Yellowjackets, 6-2

    Grant Loeffelbein, Josh Magnussen and Kyle Wheeler smacked two hits each in a 6-2 Glenwood baseball victory over Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson on Saturday.

    The Rams (21-8 overall, 12-5 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) have won nine straight since a June 29 7-6 loss to Clarinda.

    Matt Schulz (2-2) came on in relief of Magnussen, who started on the hill, to pitch three innings of scoreless relief and earn the win. Taylor Kaufman came on in the seventh to to earn the save.

    Magnussen drove in two runs. Loeffelbein doubled, walked once and stole two bases.

    Glenwood cross country coach Todd Peverill called his shot earlier in the week.

    “It'll come down to us and Kuemper,” he said.

    And the coach was right – the Hawkeye 10 Conference Boys Cross Country title did come down to his Class 3A No. 5 ranked Rams and the Knights. But even Peverill couldn't have predicted his team would win by the margin it did.

    The rains came in the second half of Glenwood’s District 8 showdown with Adel-Desoto-Minburn (A-D-M) Friday night just as the floodgates were opening up for the Rams.

  • Knight offense stymied in 48-0...

    TABOR - The Fremont-Mills football team turned the ball over four times and could muster just 47 yards of total offense in a 48-0 loss to Treynor in Class A, District 8 football Friday.

    “We talk all the time, if we don't turn the ball over we have a chance to win ball games. It's been our M.O. all season, we've turned it over way too many times,” said Fremont-Mills coach Jeremy Christensen.

    Treynor (7-1 overall, 5-1 in the district) turned two of the Knights' four turnovers into first-half touchdowns and allowed just nine yards rushing on 22 carries.

  • St. Albert downs Glenwood in...

    Council Bluffs St. Albert handed Glenwood a 23-25, 14-25, 20-25 non-conference sweep in volleyball last week.

    “St. Albert is a very good team. We played very well the first game but our passing and serving didn't help us for the night. We struggled passing and serving,” said Glenwood coach Kara Huisman.

    The Rams (9-15 overall, 2-6 in the conference) were led by Morgan Lucy's 10 kills and 11 blocks.

    Erica Schwanke added 17 assists and three aces and Chelsea Konfrst had six kills and six blocks.

  • Wolverines can’t...

    STANTON – In the same fashion of a great heavyweight fight, the East Mills-Stanton football game, Friday, was full of quick hitting offense, strong defense, and possibly the district championship in the balance.

    The defending district champion Vikings came into the game with a perfect 6-0 record with a winning margin averaging 40 points per game wearing their purple tops and white bottoms.

    The challenger East Mills Wolverines were in their visiting whites, with a 5-1 record, only losing in an overtime slugfest with the CAM, Anita Cougars in which they lost 44-42.

  • Rams dominate Atlantic, move to...

    Nick Uphoff passed for three touchdowns and the Glenwood defense forced five turnovers and allowed just 146 total yards in a 40-7 Class 3A, District 8 victory over Atlantic on Friday.

    For the game, Glenwood gained 317 yards to Trojans’ 146 and ground out 263 rushing.

  • Rams take title at Southern Cal-...

    Johnny Fuller led four Glenwood runners in the top 10 as the Rams took the team title at the Southern Cal-Lake City Cross Country Invitational last Tuesday.

    The Rams' edged Kuemper Catholic 29 points to 35. Glenwood coach Todd Peverill knew the meet would likely be a dogfight between his team and the Knights.

  • Rams sweep Panthers

    The Glenwood volleybally team earned a 25-20, 25-21, 25-23 sweep victory over Creston in Hawkeye 10 Conference play on Thursday.

    The Rams improved to 9-13 overall and 2-5 in the conference with the win.

    “We played very well tonight,” said Glenwood coach Kara Huisman. “This has been a tough week of practice and I am so proud of the way all of our girls responded. This was a complete team win and the girls deserve it.

    Morgan Lucy led the Rams with 12 kills and five aces.

    Chelsea Konfrst had seven kills and Cassie Stewart had five.
