  • Fremont-Mills drops two at...

    The Fremont-Mills offense struggled in a pair of losses at the Griswold Softball Tournament on Saturday.

    The Knights (6-8 overall, 3-0 in the Corner Conference) dropped its opener 6-3 to Southwest Valley and then were shutout 10-0 by Exira in the capper.

    In the two games combined, the Knights recorded five hits, just one going for extra bases.

    Joni Laughlin took the loss to Southwest Valley, allowing three hits and no earned runs while striking out four.

  • Rams fall to St. Albert, 14-10

    Council Bluffs St. Albert plated seven runs in the final two innings to erase a three run deficit and escape Glenwood with a 14-10 Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball victory Friday.

    The Rams (8-6 overall, 6-5 in the conference) smacked a season-high 18 hits in the win but just didn’t pitch good enough to win, said Glenwood coach Bret Elam.

  • Rams drop two at Treynor tourney

    Glenwood fielding miscues led to a combined 12 unearned runs as the Rams dropped a pair of games at the Treynor Softball Invitational Saturday.

    The Rams (11-9 overall, 6-6 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference)

    "Unfortunately, we really struggled on defense today," said Glenwood coach Tom Horton.

    Glenwood dropped a decision to Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 6-0 and then was bested by the host Cardinals 13-4.

    Jacy Embray was credited with the game one loss after scattering four hits and one earned run in four innings.

    The Glenwood girls and boys soccer teams placed five on the All-Hawkeye 10 Conference soccer team released last week.

    In a league-wide vote of coaches, the Glenwood girls’ Sarah Homan, Sara Gutschenritter and Danni Finn were tabbed for the first team. Ross Van Slyke and Andy Staiert were named to the first team on the boys side.

  • Glenwood splits pair at Battle...

    The Glenwood baseball team won one and dropped one as a host site for the Battle of the Bluffs Baseball Tournament Saturday.

    The Rams (7-3 overall, 5-2 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) opened with a 14-0 loss to North Scott before bouncing back for a 4-2 win over Clear Lake in their tournament capper.

    With six of his 16 varsity players not available, including four of his top five outfielders, Glenwood coach Bret Elam knew his team’s opener against Class 4A top 10 ranked North Scott might be a tall task.

  • Ram bats go quiet in 10-0 loss...

    Sioux City East plated four runs in the first and six more in the sixth in a 10-0 shutout of Glenwood in non-conference softball last Wednesday.

    The Rams (10-4 overall, 6-2 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) struggled to generate much offense in just their second shutout loss of the season.

    “It was a quiet night for us at the plate and two big innings for East did us in,” said Glenwood coach Tom Horton.

    Jacy Embray led the Rams with two hits. Sara Ingoldsby, Molly Dean and Baily Rumery added hits.

  • Glenwood softball 2-1 at...

    The Glenwood softball team finished 2-1 at the Atlantic Invitational Saturday.

    The Rams (8-3 overall, 4-2 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) shutout Carroll 11-0 in the opener before dropping a 5-1 decision to Panora in game two. Glenwood bounced back to defeat Audubon 14-0 in the capper.

    The host Trojans won the tournament compiling a record of 3-0.

    Jacy Embray recorded the two wins for the Rams in the circle and Mackenzie Richter took the loss.

  • Knights split pair at own Tabor...

    Less than 24 hours after defeating Stanton 6-4, the Fremont-Mills softball team opened its Tabor Tournament Saturday morning with a 10-2 victory over the Viqueens.

    Kayleigh Cole had two hits and drove in three runs for the Knights (4-3 overall, 3-1 in the Corner Conference) in the opener. Delaney Langfelt doubled and drove in two runs.

    Joni Laughlin earned the win in the circle, striking out three and allowing three hits.

  • Big seventh inning lifts...

    After allowing Atlantic to take a 3-0 lead with a big third inning, Glenwood bounced back to plate seven in the top of the fourth and cruise to a 9-3 victory in Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball Friday night.

    The Rams (4-2 overall, 3-2 in the conference) smacked 11 hits in the win. Aaron Bertini led the way with a 3-for-4 night and drove in two runs. Wyatt Schulz added two hits and drove in a run while Kyle Murtfeld singled to drive in two more runs of his own.

  • Blue Devils edge East Mills, 10-7

    Nishnabotna rallied from down 7-1 in the fifth inning with a seven run fifth to pull away from East Mills in a Corner Conference baseball match up Thursday.

    The Wolverines (1-3 overall, 1-3 in the Corner Conference) plated three runs in the second and four more in the third and appeared to be in control until the Blue Devils exploded for seven runs to take the lead for good.
    Logan Currin, Keegan Wederquist and Noah Hillyer each smacked two hits to lead East Mills. Wederquist and Hillyer each drove in two runs.
