  • Rams’ dominate Yellowjackets in...

        The Glenwood girls basketball team rang in the new season with a resouding 57-9 victory over Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson last Tuesday.
        The Rams scored the first 15 points of the game and never looked back in the dominating season-opening win before a reporter-estimated crowd of 500 in Glenwood.
        The win wasn’t the test Glenwood coach Barry Loeffelbein was hoping for but he’ll take it.

  • Knights fall to Tigers, 49-34

        RED OAK — The Fremont-Mills girls basketball team lost its season-opener on the road last Tuesday with a 49-34 loss to Red Oak.
        Red Oak outscored the Knights in the second half 26-16, including 14-4 in the third quarter, as they pulled away for their first win over the Class 1A Knights since 2010.
        “What a relief. Getting the goose egg off the win column is always good,” Red Oak Head Girls Basketball Coach Dan Martinez said.

  • East Mills falls in opener

        The Shenandoah girls out-scored East Mills 42-15 over the second and third quarters to pull away for a 69-43 victory last Monday.
        The Fillies led just 16-14 after the first quarter but a 22-10 second quarter run and a 20-5 third quarter run proved the difference.

  • Wilson, Phillips all-state

        Fremont-Mills’ senior football players Seth Phillips and Clayton Wilson have both been named first team all-state by the Iowa Newspaper Association.
        The team, released last week, tabbed Phillips as an offensive lineman and Wilson as a linebacker on the 21-member first team in the Eight-Man class.
        Phillips, a 6-foot, 230-pounder, was a four-year starter on the offensive line. He also led the 8-2 Knights with 102 tackles from his linebacker position.

  • Knights ousted in first round

        Coon Rapids-Bayard quarterback Keaton Schlatter threw 53 passes in last Wednesday’s Eight-Man state playoff game against Fremont-Mills.
        None was bigger than the senior’s 26-yard dart to Caylor Deeth with 9:21 to go in the game. The touchdown toss proved to be the game-winner for the No. 3 seed Crusaders in a 45-34 upset of the defending state champion Knights in front of a reporter-estimated 400 fans on a frigid night in Tabor.

  • Lewis Central ends Rams’ season...

        For the second time in 10 days, the Council Bluffs Lewis Central volleyball team delivered a three game sweep of Glenwood.
        Thursday’s 25-19, 25-18, 27-25 loss at the hand of the Titans ended Glenwood’s season in the Class 4A, Region 1 semifinals.

  • Reeve runs at state cross country

        Glenwood’s Jeff Reeve placed 97th at the Iowa State Cross Country meet on Saturday at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
        Reeve ran a 17:58.13. The senior placed 32nd last year.
        Boone’s Chandler Austin was the individual champion with a time of 15:24.26. Teammate Albert Meier was second in 15:35.20.
        Decorah placed four runners in the top 12 to take home the team title with a score of 62.

  • Glenwood girls eighth at...

        The Glenwood girls cross country team missed qualifying for the state meet with an eighth place finish at the Class 3A Regionals in Atantic on Oct. 22.
        The Rams finished with 216 points.
        Dallas Center-Grimes was the regional champion with 52 points. Harlan was the meet runner-up with a team score of 74.
        Natalie Shearer led the Rams with a 28th place finish. Lizzy Young was 30th.

  • Stanton gets fourth straight win...

        The fourth time wasn’t the charm for Fremont-Mills volleyball team.
        Stanton got 14 kills from Carmen Subbert and hit .441 as a team in a fourth straight victory over the Knights this season in Tuesday’s 25-14, 25-11, 25-13 win in the Class 1A, Region 2 quarterfinals.
        The Knights (18-10) hit just .159 in the loss, finishing with 18 kills. Taryn Williams led the way with 10 kills and Macy Williams added three. Macy Williams also pitched in three aces.

  • Tigers sweep East Mills in...

        Griswold ended the East Mills volleyball team’s season last Tuesday with a 25-18, 25-20, 25-21 sweep of the Wolverines in the Class 2A, Region 3 opening round.
        The Wolverines (9-15) finished with 29 kills but struggled with their consistency, hitting at .099.  Amanda Bazer led the way with 13 kills. Kendra Croghan added six and Jessie Doyle four. Doyle added nine digs.
        Stephanie Frink had 14 set assists.
