  • Knights sweep Sidney

    A pair of pitching gems by Mindy Lorimor led the Fremont-Mills softball team to a Corner Conference sweep of Sidney on Thursday.

    In game one Lorimor fanned 12 and allowed five hits in a 10-0, six inning victory. In the capper, Lorimor no-hit the Cowgirls in a 2-0 win. In the two games the junior fanned 19, allowed five hits and just one walk.

    Lorimor added four hits and an RBI at the plate.

    Madison Powers added four hits and three RBIs.

  • Cowboys slip past F-M

    The Fremont-Mills baseball team could muster just four hits in a 11-4 Corner Conference loss to Sidney on Thursday.

    Austin Hansen had two hits and Clayton Wilson and Austin Switzer one each for the Knights.

    Derrian Bredberg took the loss on the hill for Fremont-Mills, allowing seven hits and five earned runs while striking out eight.

    Fremont-Mills 9

    Stanton and Fremont-Mills combined for 26 hits and 29 runs in a 20-9, five inning Viking victory at Tabor City Park last Tuesday.

  • Rams split pair with Denison

    It was a tale of two games for the Glenwood baseball team in Hawkeye 10 Conference double-header split with Denison on Thursday.

    In game one, the Rams committed a season-high 11 errors in a 19-18 loss won by a Grady Thies walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh.

    In game two, Glenwood bounced backed, thanks to a sterling two-hit shutout win by Taylor Kaufman, to post a 11-0 victory in five innings.

    For Glenwood coach Bret Elam, his team’s Jeckyl and Hyde persona has been plaguing the Rams for the last two weeks.

  • Glenwood wins two at S.D. tourney

    The Glenwood baseball team won a pair of games on Saturday at the CNOS Baseball Classic in Elk Point, S.D.

    The Rams (12-2 overall, 7-0 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) got a complete-game, five-hit shutout from Matt Schulz in a 5-0 win over St. Mary's Remsen in game one. In game two, Josh DeYoung and Drake Ruth combined for a 6-3 victory over MOC-Floyd Valley.

    Schulz fanned 10 to improve to 2-0 on the season. The junior lefthander also got some nice clutch hitting from Taylor Kaufman, Drew Howell, Kyle Wheeler and Trent Jameson who all drove in one run.

  • Rams stop Cards at Treynor...

    Brianna VanNess earned her first varsity win for the Glenwood girls softball team in a 5-1 victory over Treynor at the Treynor Classic Softball Tournament on Saturday.

    VanNess, a freshman, threw a complete game for the Rams (13-5 overall, 5-3 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) in the game-two victory.

    In the tournament opener, the Rams lost a heartbreaker to Council Bluffs Abraham 11-9. It was Glenwood's second loss to the Lynx in five days.

  • Clarinda hands Knights 14-5 loss

    The Fremont-Mills baseball team smacked five hits and allowed just four earned runs but still lost a non-conference match up with Clarinda 14-5 on Saturday.

    Austin Hansen was 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs for the Knights (2-7). Derrian Bredberg added two hits and four other Knights each recorded at least one hit.

    Clayton Wilson took the loss on the hill after allowing eight hits and just two earned runs.

    Fremont-Mills 10

    The Villisca baseball team escaped Tabor with a 13-10 victory over Fremont-Mills on Friday.

  • Fremont-Mills splits pair at...

    The Fremont-Mills softball team split a pair of games at the Griswold Softball Tournament on Saturday.

    The Knights (14-5) dropped the tournament opener 13-5 to Villisca before bouncing back to win game two 10-5 over Griswold.

    Playing without ace pitcher Mindy Lorimor, the Knights turned to sophomore Kendall Fichter in game one. Fichter allowed four hits and three earned runs in the loss.

    Against Villisca, the Knights had four hits, led by Madison Powers’ 2-for-4 day.

  • Rams punch ticket to state

    Eleven games ago, following a tough 2-0 loss to Omaha South to drop his team to 5-2 on the season, Glenwood soccer coach Mike Artist had to come to a decision:

    Keep juggling his line up, searching for a right combination that might work or just stick with one line up and let the chips fall where they may.

    Artist chose the latter.

  • Glenwood off to hot start on...

    Taylor Kaufman and Drake Ruth combined for a no-hit, 1-0 Glenwood victory over Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson on Friday.

    The win was Class 3A, No. 2-ranked Rams’ third straight to open the season.

    Kaufman started the game and fanned 10 in five innings before giving way to Ruth in the sixth. Kaufman (1-0) earned the win and Ruth the save.

    Kaufman and left-fielder Kyle Wheeler each had one of the Rams’ two hits. Kaufman also drew a walk, stole a base and scored the game’s lone run.

  • Knights go 1-2 at Red Oak

    The Fremont-Mills softball team went 1-2 at the Red Oak Softball Tournament on Saturday.

    The Knights (3-3) opened the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Griswold before dropping their final two tournament games 9-1 to Walnut and 4-3 to the host Tigers.

    Against Griswold, Knight pitcher Mindy Lorimor fanned 16, allowed just four hits and no earned runs for the win. Shortstop Emily Smith went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Knights’ offense.

    Lorimor allowed seven hits and four earned runs against Red Oak to record her first loss of the season.
