  • Glenwood grapplers fifth at...

        The Glenwood wrestling team placed fifth at the Hawkeye 10 Conference wrestling meet on  Saturday at Clarinda.
        Creston crowned five individual champions to rack up 241.5 points and win its first Hawkeye 10 title since 1988. Atlantic was the runner up with 226.5 points. Council Bluffs Lewis Central, which had won five straight conference titles entering this year’s tournament, finished third with 174 points.
        Glenwood had two wrestlers reach the finals and placed fifth as  team with 131.5 points.

        The East Mills girls were held scoreless in the first quarter and scored a season-low six first half points in a 58-14 loss to Stanton Friday in Corner Conference girls basketball.

        The  Glenwood girls rolled to their 15th win in 16 tries and Morgan Lucy became the Rams all-time leading scorer in a 54-38 victory over Harlan on Friday.

    Fremont-Mills senior Nate Meier has accepted a football  scholarship offer from the University of Iowa and will sign a letter-of-intent in a ceremony at his high school Wednesday morning.

        The Glenwood wrestling team picked up the team title and avenged an earlier loss to Council Bluffs Lewis Central in the championship match at the Sioux City Heelan Duals on Saturday.
        The Rams, who lost to the Titans in a tight conference dual 42-32 on  Jan. 12, defeated Council Bluffs Lewis Central 35-24 in the championship match at Heelan to win the dual tournament. Glenwood knocked off Sioux City East 45-34, LeMars 39-33 and Lincoln (Neb.) East 39-34 to reach the finals.

        Sidney out-scored East Mills 7-3 in the overtime period to post a 45-41 victory over the Wolverines in the semifinals of the Corner Conference Boys Basketball Tournament on Thursday.

  • East Mills girls ousted in...

        Stanton ousted the East Mills girls from the Corner Conference Tournament second round last Tuesday with a 57-29 victory over the Wolverines.
        The Wolverines (4-9 overall, 3-4 in the conference) were out-scored 16-6 in the first quarter but had trimmed that lead to five midway through the second quarter when leading-scorer Devin Laughlin went down with a sprained ankle. Laughlin returned in the second half but East Mills never recovered.

  • Glenwood girls net 13th win of...

        The Glenwood girls basketball team improved to 13-1 on the season with a 75-56 Hawkeye 10 Conference victory over Red Oak on Friday.
        The Rams (13-1 overall, 8-1 in the conference) stormed out to a 39-19 halftime lead in the win.
        With Red Oak making a concerted effort to stop the inside scoring of Morgan Lucy, the Rams lit up the Tigers from the outside, hitting 9-of-22 three-pointers. Senior Rachel DeYoung led the Ram attack, hitting 5-of-9 shots from behind the arc and scoring a career-high 25 points.

  • Jones’ 22 leads Rams over Tigers

        Derek Jones scored a career-high 22 points for Glenwood in a 65-46 Hawkeye 10 Conference victory over Red Oak on Friday.
        The Rams (7-7 overall, 4-5 in the conference) led wire-to-wire in posting a season-sweep over the Tigers with the win.
        “This was a nice road win,” said Glenwood coach Curt Schulte. “It was their senior night so it was a good crowd and they (Red Oak) came out with some fire but we played good and got a good win.”

        MALVERN - The Sidney boys battled back from seven points down over the final four minutes to secure their first Corner Conference Basketball Tournament title since 2002 with a 42-40 victory over Fremont-Mills on Saturday at East Mills High School.
