  • Comeback Kids

SERGEANT BLUFF - Michael Lawler's field goal with :50 left in the game and a stifling  defensive effort carried Glenwood to a 9-7 come-from-behind season-opening victory at Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Friday.

  • Wolverines tame Tigers

MALVERN – After spotting Woodbine a pair of first-quarter touchdowns, East Mills got its big-play offense on track in time to spark a 40-28 eight-man win over the visiting Tigers last Friday night before a partisan Wolverine crowd.

  • 2009-2010 Mills County Athlete...

If Mindy Lorimor, a four-sport varsity athlete at Fremont-Mills, had to list what sport was her favorite, she'd list them as follows:
        1. Softball.
        2. Softball.
        3. Softball.

“I like basketball and volleyball, too,” Lorimor conceded later. Much later.

  • 2009-2010 Mills County Athlete...

Not just any athlete gets his own bus bench.

Then again, not every athlete had Johnny Fuller's year.
The Glenwood junior placed third at last fall's Iowa State Cross Country meet, the school's best ever individual finish. This after breaking the school record for the Rams' own cross country course and snagging his second straight Hawkeye 10 Conference title.

  • Historic win puts Rams into...

It may have been their first state tournament berth but the Glenwood baseball team celebrated like old pro's on Wednesday with the customary dog pile and Gatorade bath for head coach Bret Elam.

After decades of struggle and three straight 20 win seasons with littler post-season success, the Glenwood baseball team is headed to this week's Iowa State Baseball Tournament after a big first inning and another sterling pitching performance from Taylor Kaufman carried the Rams to a 9-1 substate victory over A-D-M at Carroll Stadium in Carroll on Wednesday.

  • Knights roll into district...

The Fremont-Mills softball team rolled into the Class 1A regional semifinals for the third straight year on Friday with a 11-2 victory over Sidney.

Lorimor was again dominant in the circle, striking out 11, allowing seven hits and just one earned run in the victory.

  • Rams take two at Omaha South...

The Glenwood baseball team went 2-0 and outscored its opponents 20-1 at the Omaha South Invitational at Omaha's Brown Park over the weekend.

Glenwood (23-6 overall, 15-1 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) knocked off the host Packers 10-1 and came back on Saturday to defeat Bennington, Neb. 10-0 in five innings.

In game one, Matt Schulz (3-1) tossed a four hit gem, striking out nine and allowing one earned run.

In the tournament capper, Alec Forbes earned the victory pitching four scoreless innings and striking out eight in four innings of work.

  • Rams knock Titans off Hawk-10...

COUNCIL BLUFFS - Chloe Newman’s bases clearing double lifted the Glenwood softball team to a 6-3 victory over Council Bluffs Lewis Central on Friday morning.

The game was the conclusion of an extra-inning game the two teams started on June 17 but was suspended in the ninth inning due to lightening strikes.
