  • Rams’ King eighth at state tennis

    Glenwood’s Jana King placed eighth at the Class 1A State Tennis Tournament at the Ankeny Tennis Complex wrapping up Saturday.

    King downed Dubuque Wahlert’s Audrey Hinz 6-3, 6-3 in the opening round before falling to top seeded Mara Pirscoveanu of Denison in the quarterfinals. Pirscoveanu defeated King 6-0, 6-1. Pirscoveanu, a foreign exchange student from Romania, went on to win the Class 1A state singles title.

  • Blue Devils edge East Mills, 10-7

    Nishnabotna rallied from down 7-1 in the fifth inning with a seven run fifth to pull away from East Mills in a Corner Conference baseball match up Thursday.

    The Wolverines (1-3 overall, 1-3 in the Corner Conference) plated three runs in the second and four more in the third and appeared to be in control until the Blue Devils exploded for seven runs to take the lead for good.
    Logan Currin, Keegan Wederquist and Noah Hillyer each smacked two hits to lead East Mills. Wederquist and Hillyer each drove in two runs.

  • Big seventh inning lifts...

    After allowing Atlantic to take a 3-0 lead with a big third inning, Glenwood bounced back to plate seven in the top of the fourth and cruise to a 9-3 victory in Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball Friday night.

    The Rams (4-2 overall, 3-2 in the conference) smacked 11 hits in the win. Aaron Bertini led the way with a 3-for-4 night and drove in two runs. Wyatt Schulz added two hits and drove in a run while Kyle Murtfeld singled to drive in two more runs of his own.

  • Knights split pair at own Tabor...

    Less than 24 hours after defeating Stanton 6-4, the Fremont-Mills softball team opened its Tabor Tournament Saturday morning with a 10-2 victory over the Viqueens.

    Kayleigh Cole had two hits and drove in three runs for the Knights (4-3 overall, 3-1 in the Corner Conference) in the opener. Delaney Langfelt doubled and drove in two runs.

    Joni Laughlin earned the win in the circle, striking out three and allowing three hits.

  • Glenwood softball 2-1 at...

    The Glenwood softball team finished 2-1 at the Atlantic Invitational Saturday.

    The Rams (8-3 overall, 4-2 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) shutout Carroll 11-0 in the opener before dropping a 5-1 decision to Panora in game two. Glenwood bounced back to defeat Audubon 14-0 in the capper.

    The host Trojans won the tournament compiling a record of 3-0.

    Jacy Embray recorded the two wins for the Rams in the circle and Mackenzie Richter took the loss.

  • Glenwood girls10th at state...

    The Glenwood girls won five medals and placed a program-best 10th overall in the Class 3A standings with a school record 24 team points at the Iowa State Track and Field Meet in Des Moines.

    Davenport Assumption was the girls team champion with 79 points.
    But it was his own team Glenwood coach Brad Rasmussen was more impressed by.

  • Knights’ Hurley, Powers earn...

    Fremont-Mills’ Kelsey Hurley medaled in three events and Parker Powers was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles at the Class 1A Iowa State Track and Field Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

    The Knight girls finished with 20.5 points to place 10th in the girls Class 1A standing. Hudson was the girls champion with 72 points.

  • Glenwood girls, boys looking to...

     The Glenwood girls track team sits at 18 points and in a tie for seventh place heading into Saturday’s final day at the Iowa State Track and Field Meet in Des Moines.

    The girls will run in the shuttle hurdle relay finals Saturday morning with a final chance at points. Assumption leads in the girls standings with 49 points.

    The Glenwood boys place (36th) and team points (two) after two days at the state track meet may seem disappointing but with four final events yet to be run the Rams have plenty of chances to climb the leaders board.

  • Glenwood sweeps regional,...

    A week after sweeping the team titles at the Hawkeye 10 Conference track meet on their home track the Glenwood girls and boys track team did the same on the road, winning the Class 3A qualifying meet in Atlantic Thursday.

  • Hurley sparks Knights in 1A meet

    For the second straight season, Fremont-Mills’ Kelsey Hurley qualified in four events for this week’s Iowa State Track Meet.

    Hurley won the high jump, 200-meter and 400-meter dash and anchored the sprint medley relay to gold to lead the Knights to a second place showing in the team standings at the Class 1A state qualifying meet at West Harrison Thursday.

    The state track meet opens Thursday at Drake University in Des Moines and runs through Saturday.
