  • Kuemper downs Rams in regular-...

    Kuemper Catholic smacked down 36 kills  in a 25-14, 25-16, 25-21 sweep of Glenwood in Hawkeye 10 Conference volleyball last Tuesday.

    Glenwood (16-13 overall, 5-5 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) struggled with its hitting against the Knights (18-8 overall, 5-5 in the conference), finishing with a .115 kill efficiency and 22 kills.

    The Knights also had 11 blocks.

    Jana King led the Rams with six kills and 11 assists. Kali Mumm and Lyndie VanNess each recorded five kills.

    Libero Olivia Scarborough recorded 17 digs.

  • Knights wrap up district,...

    ESSEX - Fremont-Mills scored a season-high in points and recorded just a single first down in Friday’s 67-12 victory over Essex.

    With three kick returns for touchdowns and a school-record seven interceptions, the Knights’ defense dominated the field position game, wrapping up a perfect 9-0 regular season in Eight-Man, District 8 Friday.

    “Our special teams and defense gave us short fields to work with all night,” said Fremont-Mills coach Jeremy Christiansen.

    SIDNEY - All but eliminated from playoff contention, the East Mills football team wanted to make a point in its season-finale.

    And boy did they.

    The Wolverines rolled up 422 total yards, including 287 on the ground, in a 46-12 rout of Eight Man, District 8 runner-up Sidney Friday.

    TABOR - Fremont-Mills got stronger as the night went on and finished with 28 kills in a business-like 25-19, 25-14, 25-17 Class 1A, Region 2 opening round victory over East Mills in the Lied Gymnasium last Tuesday.

    The Knights (20-5 overall, 7-1 in the Corner Conference) earned their 15th straight victory and avenged a Sept. 9 loss to the same Wolverines with Tuesday’s post-season win.

    GRIMES - Glenwood jumped out to a 16-0 lead on Class 3A, District 8 leader Dallas Center-Grimes but the Mustangs rallied to score the final 45 points in a 45-16 victory Friday.

    The Rams got off to a quick start with a pair of touchdown runs by Kolten Wilwerding – a 44-yard scamper and a one-yard plunge – sandwiched around a Connor Weis 28 yard field goal for a 16-0 first quarter lead on the district champion Mustangs.

    The Glenwood volleyball team won its second straight Hawkeye 10 Conference match and improved 11-8 on the season with a 25-11, 25-14, 25-20 sweep on Clarinda Thursday.

    The Rams (11-8 overall, 3-2 in the conference) dominated the first two games with their aggressive hitting.

    MALVERN - East Mills rolled out to a 14-0 lead but couldn’t hold the lead as Lenox rallied for a 22-20 victory in Eight-Man, District 8 football Friday in Malvern.

    The Wolverines (3-3 overall, 1-3 in the district), who have lost three in a row since opening with three straight victories,  got a 63-yard touchdown run from Cavin Darnold and a Logan Currin to Austin Edmonds’ 6-yard touchdown pass to take a 14-0 nothing lead before Lenox had even gained a yard of offense. On their first eight snaps, the Tigers gained negative-13 yards.

    Glenwood finally came up on the winning end of a close game and snapped its four game losing streak in the process with a 10-7 non-district victory over Denison Friday.

    The Rams (2-4 overall, 0-3 in the district), who have lost games by one point twice and another by four this season, used a strong defensive effort and a fourth-quarter 28-yard field goal by Connor Weis to secure the win.

  • Knights rumble through Stanton...

    STANTON — The Fremont-Mills football team took over sole position at the top of the Eight-man District 8 standings Friday night with a 51-6 road victory over Stanton in a battle of undefeated district teams.

    The Knights scored 44 of their 51 points in the first half, forcing a running clock late in the first half and continuing it through the entirety of the second.

    “To be here at this point and time is a great feeling and it’s exactly what you’re hoping for,” said Fremont-Mills Football Coach Jeremy Christiansen after the game.

  • Rams sixth at Harlan Invite

    The Glenwood boys cross country team got a 15th place finish from Cuentin Gray as the Rams finished sixth as a team in the Harlan Cross Country Invitational Saturday.

    The Rams finished with 126 team points.

    The host Cyclones were the team champion with 46 points. Harlan placed five runners in the top 16. Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson’s Eldon Warner was the individual champion with a time of 16:48.
    Gray ran an 18:25 for 15th place.
