  • East Mills drops opener, 66-38

     

    Shenandoah defeated East Mills 66-38 in the girls basketball opener for both teams last Tuesday in Malvern.

    The Wolverines 15-14 after the first quarter but were out-scored 52-23 over the final three quarters.

  • Glenwood’s Smith named first...

    The Iowa Newspaper Association released its all-state football teams in  Class 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A, A and Eight-Man last week.

    In a poll of state sportswriters, Glenwood senior Spencer Smith was selected as a first team member of the Class 3A first team offense. Smith led the Rams with 1,138 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns on 131 attempts this season. The 5-foot-10, 161 pounder also led Glenwood with 97 tackles and an interception on defense.

  • Glenwood harriers place seventh...

    The Glenwood boys cross country team placed seventh at the Pella Invitational Cross County Meet on Saturday.

    Iowa City West was the team champion with all five of their runners placed in the top 11 for a total of 31 points to easily out-pace second place Pella’s 68 points.
    Thomas Pollard of Gilbert ran away with the individual title with a time of 16:13.

  • Rams sweep Roncalli, South

    The Glenwood volleyball team improved to 5-2 on the season with a sweep of Omaha Roncalli and Omaha South at home Thursday.

    The Rams knocked Roncalli 25-15, 25-23 in the opener and then followed that up with a dominating sweep of South, 25-10, 25-8.

    “Very solid games for us,” said Glenwood coach Maria Jacobus. “We had great passing and defense which allowed us to do more offensively.”

  • Jennings runs wild in Wolverine...

    Colby Jennings rushed for a career high 236 yards and East Mills got its first victory of the season with a 28-7 win over Shenandoah on Friday.

    The Wolverines led 22-0 after the first quarter and cruised to victory behind Jennings’ career night. The senior carried the ball 25 times, scored on a 99 yard touchdown and added a 62- yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter on defense, where he recorded seven tackles.

    Josh Hopkins added 60 yards and a touchdown rushing for East Mills.

  • Rams 2-2 at season-opening...

    The Glenwood volleyball team opened their season on Saturday with a strong showing at the Harlan Invitational Volleyball Tournament.

    The Rams reached the championship bracket by going 2-1 in pool play before dropping their semi-final against the host Cyclones, 25-16, 25-14.

  • Glenwood girls, boys third at...

    The Glenwood girls and boys both placed third at the Ram Co-Ed Cross Country Meet at Glenwood Lake Park Saturday.

    Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson had the top two boys place winners in Brian Collinson and Eldon Warner to take home the boys team title. Harlan had four girls place in the top 11 to win the girls crown. Emma Preston of Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln took home the girls individual title. The Glenwood boys finished third, just two points behind runner up Harlan while the girls trailed second place Abraham Lincoln by a margin of 66 to 86 for third place.

  • Rams trounce Tigers in season-...

    That’s how long it took Glenwood to exert its will on Red Oak in its season-opening football victory on Friday.

    The Rams marched 56 yards in 10 plays, all rushing attempts, capped by quarterback Corey Bertini’s three-yard plunge on the game’s opening drive, to go ahead 7-0 and cruise to a 43-13 victory before a reporter-estimated 400 at Ram Memorial Field.

  • Fright Knight

    MONDAMIN - On it’s disastrous first two plays from scrimmage Fremont-Mills netted four yards, two fumbles and a turnover.

    Then things really got bad. Four plays later West Harrison converted that turnover into a touchdown and then added four more scores off Knight first half giveaways en route to a 62-12 season-opening victory over Fremont-Mills in Mondamin on Friday.

    After winning the opening coin toss and electing to receive the ball first, the Hawkeyes jumped on the Knights and never seemed to let up.
