  • Glenwood girls can’t...

    The Glenwood girls basketball team couldn’t hold onto a 10-point halftime lead and missed six free throws in the final minute in a 33-31 Hawkeye 10 Conference loss to Clarinda on Saturday.

    The Rams held the Cardinals to just 13 halftime points in building their 23-13 lead but a dismal second half shooting the ball was the difference, said Glenwood coach Leon Portrey.

  • Glenwood gets dual wins over...

    With weather not allowing many teams to make the scheduled Atlantic Invitational on Friday, the Glenwood wrestling team traveled to Atlantic for a dual against Atlantic and Winterset.

    The Rams won eight of 14 matches for a 49-28 victory over Winterset. Glenwood followed up the Winterset win with a 36-28 dual victory over the host Trojans.

  • Rams roll in 53-point rout

    The Glenwood boys basketball team shot a season-high 60 percent from the field and had four players score in double-figures in a 86-33 Hawkeye 10 Conference victory over Shenandoah on Friday.

    Glenwood coach Curt Schulte said the Rams (3-3 overall, 3-2 in the conference) may have had their best offensive night of the season with 83 points, it was the defense his team played that was the real difference.

  • Fremont-Mills receives $1.6...

    The Fremont-Mills Sports Complex Committee announced last week that the Lied Foundation Trust has issued a grant to the school for construction of the Lied Gymnasium and Sports Complex at the Fremont-Mills Community School.

    The $1.6 million grant will go toward the construction and equipping of the 23,220 square foot facility. The building will feature a foyer with concessions and restrooms, gymnasium with a walking track, fitness center, health and wellness classroom, and locker room areas.

  • Glenwood girls escape Shenandoah...

    The Glenwood girls outscored Shenandoah 24-10 in the first half in a 46-32 Hawkeye 10 Conference victory on Friday.

    Tori Kruse led the Rams (4-3, 2-2 in the conference) with 13 points.

    Ana VanScoy added eight and Tabi Evans, Chelsea Konfrst and Morgan Lucy added six points each.

    Tori Kruse hit five three pointers in the first-quarter run for Glenwood in a 60-36 Hawkeye 10 Conference rout of Red Oak last Monday.

  • Larsen’s three lifts...

    Dylan Larsen’s three-pointer with just over a minute to go sealed the 48-39 win for the East Mills boys basketball team over Sidney last Tuesday.

    The Wolverines (3-2 overall, 1-1 in the Corner Conference) outscored the Cowboys 19-13 in the decisive final quarter.

    Jake Doyle and A.J. Westover led East Mills with 11 points each and Jake Bolton pitched in with nine.

    Larsen finished with seven points.

  • Herrick's big night lifts...

    Brandon Herrick scored a season-high 30 points and dished out five assists to lead the Fremont-Mills boys basketball team to a rally from 15 points down to defeat Farragut 71-64 on Saturday.

    After giving up 46 first half points, the Knights’ defense buckled down after halftime to allow just six field goals and 18 points.

  • Rams slay Knights for first...

    The Glenwood boys basketball team had four players score in double-figures in a 54-46 Hawkeye 10 Conference victory over Kuemper Catholic on Friday for the Rams’ first win of the season.

    The win was the Rams’ first in four tries this season after losses to Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson, Harlan and Council Bluffs Lewis Central. After shooting less than 32 percent in all three losses, Glenwood shot 42 percent against the Knights and turned the ball over a season-low eight times.

  • Rams fourth at West Des Moines...

    Colin White won the heavyweight class and four other Glenwood wrestlers finished in the top three as the Rams placed fourth at the West Des Moines Valley Invitational on Saturday.

    Host Valley was the team champion with 225 points, followed by Indianola (203) and Sioux City North (161).

    “We had an outstanding first round and we only lost three matches. The second round was the complete opposite and we only won three matches. We need to work on our consistency,” said Dyer. “We can’t be a yo-yo team and expect to be in the final two.

  • Knights roll over Farragut, 61-29

    Lauren Allen scored 21 points and Jessica Donahue 12 as the Fremont-Mills girls basketball team handed Farragut a 61-29 Corner Conference loss on Saturday.

    The Knights led 35-11 at the half and the Admirals never got closer than 20 points in the second half.

    Fremont-Mills forced 38 turnovers in the win and held the Admirals to 36 percent shooting.

    The Sidney girls basketball team outlasted Fremont-Mills in a 44-37 Corner Conference victory on Friday.
