        A two-point conversion that would have tied the game with 4:36 and a fourth-down pass with 1:55 remaining both came up short for Glenwood on Friday as Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson escaped Glenwood with a 28-26 non-district victory at Ram Memorial Field.

  • Wolverines shut out Clarinda...

        Colby Jennings ran for four touchdowns and Austin Sommerla threw a touchdown pass for the East Mills football team in a 42-0 victory over Clarinda Academy on Friday.
        “We really played much better,” said East Mills coach Andy Irwin, a week after the Wolverines’ offense struggled in a 10-7 season-opening loss to Shenandoah. “The effort was there. We did a good job in blocking assignments, and guys who we had to sort of move around the fly last week due to injuries were more in position.”

  • Clarinda battles back to defeat...

                Glenwood won the first two games but couldn’t hang on for the win as Clarinda battled back from a 2-0 deficit to down the Rams 25-19, 25-19, 18-25, 22-25, 15-13 in Hawkeye 10 Conference volleyball last Tuesday.

                After playing nearly flawless in the first two games, the Rams seemed to lose focus and Clarinda responded by rattling off three straight wins to seal the win.

  • Six from area on all-Corner...

        Six area athletes were named to the All-Corner Conference baseball team released last week.
        Charlie Ruff, Daniel Duysen and Luke Schafer, all of East Mills, were tabbed as first team selections along with Fremont-Mills’ Corey Morrical, James Hill and Austin Switzer.
        League coaches, who vote on the team, awarded unanimous selection to Schafer, Nishnabotna’s Andrew Thompson, Levi Allen of Essex and Brendon Hardy of Sidney.

  • Winterset ends Rams’ season in...

        ATLANTIC - For the second straight game a home run played a major factor for the Glenwood softball team.
        But this time, the Rams came up on the wrong end of that long ball.
        Karly Olson’s two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning was all Winterset needed to get past Glenwood 2-0 in the Class 4A Regional final at Atlantic last Tuesday.
